Orange scales change?

No biggie here but I was wondering, I had a OD green RC3 awhile back that I got rid of because of the partial serrations weren't for me. The orange scales on it if I remember correctly seemed quite smooth like Barkies G10. My new RP scales are nicely textured. Was the machining for these changed? Main reason I ask is for recommendation purposes. In the past if someone was thinking about the orange I would point out they were smoother than the other RAT handles.
 
I don't have an older model, but the new ones I got are slightly textured. I find them grippy enough when wet, However the canvas and linen micarta are more grippy.
 
I thought it was just me.

I have a -3 and -4 in G10 Orange/OD and the texture is smooth on the panel face like micarta linen.

On the RAT Pack RC-3 G10 Orange/Black the texture feels like micarta canvas.

No complaints, though :D.
