I just got this one in the mail today and it is a combination of a few firsts for me. It's my first custom folder, first left handed slip joint, and it's the first knife I've had with smooth G10 scales. The fit and finish are terrific on it. The backspring is flush in all 3 positions and the swedge is perfectly matched on both sides. G10 looks so much nicer finished like this than the flat textured slabs I was used to on modern production knives.

Even though it's never been a big deal to me before. the left hand configuration is a nice touch that makes it more enjoyable to use. It's nice to not have to flip the knife over after opening it. The pull on it is just right for me as well, about a 5 to the half stop and a 7 from half to full open. This linerless shadow is definitely Ultra-lite and for being 3 7/8" it disappears in the pocket. As much as I like how it looks new, I think it will look even better after the 1095 gets a nice patina on it.

I have the regular version of this knife from Gene (Liners & right hand nail nick) in Orange G-10 and I am also quite impressed though it's far from my first custom slippy. I even ordered a couple more:thumbup:

Pretty sweet! I like the touch of adding in the fourth pin, even though it doesn't have liners -- looks more "finished" that way to me. BTW, I've seen a number of customs with orange G10, but does anyone have one in bright yellow G10?

I really dig on my blue G10 ultra-light. So much so that I now have a total of three including the ultra-light and two liner models in red and black G10. GREAT knives!

great pics, show the knife very well
discovered the maker on the marketplace

fine looking edc knives, no bells and whistles, goo materials, shapes and prices
will get one this year i think

I have to admit that I put the extra pin in there because I drilled the hole without thinking. I appreciate the comments though.

a false pin looks nice IMO ;)
may receive a mail from me in the future, near future I hope
we may get to a project I'm thinking of (mad knife of course)

Looks so good. My problem is just to decide color and with or without liners, before pulling trigger on this :D

I bet knife is plenty strong with just G10 and liners bring just bit more sturdiness and add more weight... Decisions, decisions, decisions...

Todd Davison did a thread about a year ago on the strength of these back when he was making a bunch of linerless slipjoints. As I remember, when he put the blade in a vise to see if the pivot would hold, the blade bent but the pivot and handle material was fine.

Carrying this knife today was quite a treat. It's so thin and lightweight that it is unnoticeable in the pocket despite it being just a tad longer than a GEC #73. The sunk joint adds to this as there isn't an exposed tang to jab into my leg or my hand when reaching into the pocket.

I like the fourth pin as well. I think it balances out the look of the handle. I can't recall seeing a custom with yellow G10, but it wouldn't surprise me if there's one out there. You'd have to make sure not to look directly at it when using it in the sun.

Thanks Maxx, I've been trying to increase my knife photography skills some. While I think there is still room for improvement, these are some of the best I have done so far.

The color was the hardest choice for me. Besides the orange, I also liked the ones Gene posted in ivory micarta and red G10. If you haven't seen it yet, he just sold one in the Exchange with a wharnie blade. There's one more decision for you.:D

I have three of Gene's front pockets. The blue G10 version linerless and the red and black have liners. All are tough and blue without liners has been used pretty hard so far with no blade play. It does carry in the pocket a little better but all the models are great.

Beautiful knife, Mr. Wiseman. I don't currently own any traditional slip-joints but I think your work is going to change that.

I really think its great that you offer different colors of G10. How many colors do you have available?

dannyp, I look forward to hearing your impressions after carrying and using the ultra lite folder. :)

After using it the past couple of days I like it a lot. It's been more than capable of any task I've thrown at it, from opening packages to cutting cardboard and everything in between. The handle is big enough to get a full grip on and the blade shape is good for a variety of different cutting chores. I don't know what more I can say about it that I haven't already addressed in my previous posts.

As far as your questions for Gene, you would be better off contacting him via PM or e-mail since this isn't really the appropriate forum for requesting a knife. He would also be able to answer questions regarding pricing and wait time there.

Gene makes a really nice lookin knife! The sunken joint and linerless frame seems like a great, comfortable knife! I would imagine that this would be a great knife when wearing light summer clothes especially. It's a beauty!

Nice knives. I recently stumbled across the Knifemaker portal in the exchange, and these knives peaked my interest - unfortunately all the ones advertised were sold!
