There was a post a while back with a link for ordering inexpensive prescription glasses. California front company for Chinese grinders as I recall. I've put Google through the paces searching Bladeforums for the link with no luck. And I can't search BF directly with my wimpy membership.

I also seem to recall that one of the mods had used them a lot (I think it was Cougar)

Anyone remember the thread or the company?

Thanks,

Phil

Heh, I actually have a window open, preparing an order on this exact site!

Anyone have any tips?

Thanks. Zennioptical was the one I was thinking of but I could only remember it as zvision which wasn't right.

I just ordered a pair from Zenni with all the trimmings for $50. I'll report back! They can't be any worse than Site For Sore Eyes...

My family has received 7 pair from Zenni so far with no complaints. Total is under $100. At this rate I could afford to have 3 out of 4 of them be totally useless and still feel like i won the lottery.

Tips? Depends on if you want single-vision, bifocals or progressive lenses. With this low price, I went with dedicated task glasses. I now have 3 different strengths for different distances, no more tilting the head looking for the sweet spot for that exact distance. My optician seems to thing that it is totally natural to turn the whole head to look at the side mirrors in the car, or other tasks, because that is what he is used to with his progressives. he HAS to move his head to look at anything because otherwise it will be viewed through the wrong part of the glasses.

Just make sure you get the correct distance between pupils.

My new glasses arrived yesterday. They have magnetic clip-on sunglasses, which are nowhere near the quality of the magnetic clip-ons that my old glasses have. The magnets are also on the bridge, not on the hinges, so they dig into my nose!

However, otherwise the glasses seem great, and they're definitely a bargain. If anything, I'm considering ordering another pair without the magnets...

You might consider ordering a pair of sunglasses. It's a bit of a pain to change back and forth, but they're cheap and you aren't looking through two sets of lenses. I did that, and I've found I prefer having dedicated sunglasses to wearing clip-ons.
