Order question

Hey guys... I am a newbie to this site but not knife collecting. I recently got into kukris and have fallen in love.

I just ordered a 18 in Sirupati and I cant wait to get it....

My question has to do with order confirmation. I made payment and got a number from the payment site but I haven't received a email from Himalayan Imports.

Do they usually email a confirmation page or do they just send it out? Im on the eastcoast of the USA... How long do they take to ship usually?

I ordered my first kukri from the Ex-Gurkha house and let me say I am less than impressed. I got the 15inch model and it is an intimidation sight but it is wayyyyyy to big for anything other than beheading a bull. Ive done a ton of research and now I feel confident in my decision. I am also planning on ordering a Tora blade very soon. Any info you could give me on Himalayan Imports shipping and emailing policy would be much appreciated. I cant wait to inspect the Sirupati and you can imagine... Thank you all for you time.

Auntie has been so busy you can't believe it , plus was just out of town-- be sure if you paid for it you will be taken care of ; I contend that you need go no further in your khukuri needs, as tora and ex gurkha house will never compete with HI in quality or spirit :D

When it ships it most often gets there very quick if you are in the continental USA-- if in UK it will arrive but slower; auntie ships out of Reno NV, so according to how close you are; I am in TN near memphis and get packages within 2 days almost always, shipping is never expensive always fair. If you feel odd about something do not hesitate to send a single respectful email to Auntie at himimp@aol.com and she will get back to you as soon as she is able.

remember this operation is basically a one woman show; she regulates the meeting between the craftsman and us, and runs this entire thing out of her home by herself, with only the help great people like karda ,steely and customers give her on being patient. Stick around, you will like this place if you like khuks, as many of us are also antiques collectors of the area. there are enough designs floating around you will find one right for you eventually.

you will find no place on the internet more enthusiastic about the thing you just fell in love with :D-- also feel free to ask anything about anything, someone will be around to answer eventually - we try to take care of each other.

I would definitely like to see an unbiased review and comparison of all three khuks if you do get the tora. Though I'm sure HI will utterly embarrass the competition. Enjoy the siru, I have an 18 inch by lachnu and it is positively dreamy.

there are some comparison videos on youtube I think, but yeah always value a forum member over random youtuber as input goes so definitely tell us when you get them!

Wow... Thank you for all the responses and thank you Gehazi for your informative response. I wanted to speak with people who have dealt with HI and Auntie before I contacted her. I now feel confident and have no need to contact her. I have the confirmation number from the payment site and your comments have put my mind at ease. I will be sure to post a fair informative review once I have the Kukri's. I also have a Condor Heavy Duty kukri but I don't consider it a true kukri because it isn't made by a kami.

I was planning on purchasing the Tora Goorkhali Kukri within the next week or two, my wife will kill me if I keep ordering pieces for my collection. I also collect firearms both new and old, Bark River knives are also a favorite as are Norwoods Knives. My mind has been obsessed by kukris as of late. I love their race car like design and pure usefulness. I also love collecting katana, I have twelve katana to date. I have a couple real nice ones, a few good ones, and a couple beaters. I cant offer to much insight into kukris yet but I am here if anyone needs to pick my brain on firearm questions (I know wrong forum but I am available through Private Message).

I love 5160 steel and am have a pretty good understanding of steel types. One of my favorite "good" katana is my Cheness Oniyuri made in 9260 steel. They add silicon to the mix which create a uber strong blade much like 5160 but with even more flex and more stability. I also have a Hanwei Tinker Pierce Great Sword of War in 5160, its both beautiful and super strong. The only thing I don't like is the secondary bevel, I prefer a convex grind but the secondary is easy to clean up which really isn't needed much with the 5160 steel.

Thanks again for the welcome. Its nice to be welcomed into a forum with such great responses. I will definitely stick around... Oh and be on the look out for a review of the suri once I have time to evaluate it.

I am almost sure all HI is made with 5160; and not many knives can claim the utility of a good khukuri, not many at all.

I am also a gun fan , may open a fresh gun thread in the cantina a bit later .

lol sounds like your wife will not like that you started coming here, because we are all enablers, I say buy that junk now, because you wont get another chance lol :D

If you like Katanas, you have to see the HI Everest Katana.

If Bawanna comes along, I am sure he'll be most glad to post a pic of the one he won in a raffle that auntie ran last year (I believe)

Well heck, I went and found them but forgot my paid membership expired, so it won't let me post no more.

I'm saving up to renew, might do the Basic this time just to get back in the game but will be a bit.

Probably do a search for Katana and some pictures should show up.

As someone with too many Nihonto including a few Meibutsu and a moderate version of HIKV, I can unequivically state that they are 2 totally different collection diseases with some significant similarities. Nihonto are very dynamic blades and each one has a story, starting with the Smith. In HI Khuks the Kami's are the same starting point. Each Kami has a style and strengths and some people can even tell what kami made specific blades. Other makers of khuks and KLOs and do not have the same kami ownership. They might make decent blades, but they do not have the same feel, you don't have that special link between you and a kami..

Unless ndog beats him at the draw:D

Everest Kothimoda Katana by Rajkumar in 5160 and a couple little pig stickers!

Here is an HI Katana made by Young Sher. It's 36" overall length, 36 oz, with a 3/8" thick spine. The handle is Hawaii Koa, a wood that takes an amazing polish. The handle came satin smooth, but I worked on it a bit and now it's like polished brass. (The photos show the handle as it came to me.)

Those are such beautiful examples of a non traditional katana. I absolutely love the Everest katana, I was going to purchase a Tora kukri next but that Everest has my mouth watering. I wish I had a "real" Nihonto, but I always spend my money before I save up enough pennies to throw down the 3k -5k on a decent one. I will be sure to contact Sharvu when I am ready. It seems your collection of katana outshines mine, I have yet to purchase a real one but I have been looking at the Thaitsuki brand as they seem to be the gateway or entry Nihonto due to their relatively bargain price. I also have been looking at older vintage bare Nihonto blades but my next +$2000 purchase is going to be a IMI Tavor in 5.56mm with a 18inch barrel... I have a few more kukris and an Everest katana before anything lol.

Thanks again all for the warm welcome, I can see myself coming to the forum daily due to all of your wonderfully insightful comments. I would love if someone could give me some real specs on the Everest katana...weight, length, thickness, balance, point, steel, differently treated or through hardened? I also like the look of their other swords, I love katana but I also collect laconia, broadsword, no rapiers yet but the future is open lol. Still haven't heard from Auntie yet but I am sure my order will be shipped soon. Oh one more question if anyone can answer I would appreciate it... Are the kukri listed on their site instock or do they just list everything and back order what isn't in?

yeah almost everything on the site is backordered I think, thats why we all prowl DOTD-- main items like sirupati and ang khola are almost always on hand.

when all the new kami get to work, you may get to have a broadsword or something like it -- the kami do great custom work you just have to be patient, like with any good knife company. no idea on real specs, but steve tall might pop in and show us.

and yeah most of us pop over at least once daily, i have been prowling pretty strong this weekend, getting nothing done at home :(

The pig sticker dude is Ndog. I love pigs, brought up on a hog farm. I stuck a few, but never had one of them.
