Ordered a BM 710... Opinions???

I ordered a Benchmade 710 plain edge without having handled one. It just seemed to have everything I like in a knife. G-10 is my favorite scale material, and I love the Axis lock. I actually won a BM 720 with Axis, but I sold it because it was combo-edged--not my cup of tea. Also, as far as the 710 goes, it's hard to beat ATS-34, unless you try really hard. So I like all the features. The question is: will I like them all in this package?

I'd love to hear opinions on this knife, particularly from those of you who've been using it for a while.

Guyon,

I have a 710, plain edge. It is the smmothest, fastest knife I own. I have never touched the pivot screw to adjust anything. No adjustment was necessary. I believe you will like this knife very much.

I have a couple, including one in M2 steel. They are, IMHO,among the best for the factory folders. It's also one of the most elegant looking knives out there, factory or custom.

They are now made with 154CM.

Good luck. You will really like the knife.

Great knife, I own a pre prod model in M2. If I were to be cruel there are four things I dislike with this knife.

1. Thumbstuds...
2. When I open mine the axis lock switch on the opposite side whacks my finger.
3.BT2
4. The Axis gets clogged up with fluff in my pocket and has failed to lock up twice as a result. Oh and its a bugger to clean.

Currently I own 2 710s. My EDC for almost 2 years now. IMHO the best factory folder there is - in M2. I've experienced edge chipping with BM 154 CM blades. For a user knife IMHO this is one of the best designs and implementations :)
What else, never had probs with Axis lock, however I regularly clean my knives, once in a month or so.

You might have the problem that I have. I have a al. handled one and it is TOO big but they don't make the 705 in al handle.

Oh, what to do??

{guess I'll stuggle on either with a knife too big or a G-10 handle}

Other then that I can't imagine you not liking it.

You can't really go wrong with the 710 Guyon..., and in M2 it is one tough cookie!!! Enjoy it and let us know how you like it....

In my opinion, the Axis 710 is the best 4"-bladed production sport-utility folder bar none, regardless of price. The only thing that can beat it is the M2 version! High performance blade shape, very comfortable handles, and the axis lock is a serious leap forward in locking technology. Go for it, there is no better choice at any price.

I agree with Joe, which isn't unusual.

My 710 in M2 has seen a good bit of duty lately, working around the house, in some pretty hard core use. Digging wood, using it like a planer on wood and caulk, digging old caulk out of cracks, etc. Tough enough with some common sense. Great folder.

I think I could improve on the design if primarily for self defense purposes, but not by a lot (which is hard to say for sooo many knives). Great knife. I own 3, two of which are ATS-34.

Me too. The 710HS is a pretty complete package. I can't think of another folder that combines ergonomics, security, strength, toughness, and performance like the 710 does.

Me three!

You cannot beat the 710. I really love my big Apogee with its CPM S90V blade, but the 710 works just as well, and is slightly more comfortable for long hard work.

You have made a great choice. I have had the aluminum handled version for over two years and carry it everyday, which means alot since I have about a hundred folders. It has the fastest and smoothest action of any production folder I have.

I have one BM 710 in ATS 34. It is a very high quality knife. I was very disappointed however with the dull edge that came on the knife when new. It did sharpen up nicely however.

Jay,

When did you get your 710? The early versions, like mine, had edges that were atrociously thick. I re-sharpened it by hand, and posted a detailed review of what I did, and the results. My hand-sharpened 710 cut 8 times better in hard poly rope than the out-of-box version. However, I've handled to more recently-purchased 710s from other people, and the difference in edge quality is amazing. The newer one performed impressively well. We've been guessing that Benchmade has heard all the complaints and shored-up teir sharpening.
