Yep... I am planning to pay them (my daughter and him) a visit this Fall down in Queens NY where they live. I am aiming for November, and already picked out a trinket to gift him when I head down. Him and my daughter both work for the UN in Manhatten... but his major in college was History Major. And, he has some French heritage in his blood. I'm thinking the combination of it being made in France, and... this knife pattern having a 200 year old history, will hopefully have him really enjoy the gift. So, a Forge De Laguiole will shortly arrive in my hands for my inspection and safe keeping until I visit them. Only hope it does not somehow feel too good in my safekeeping of it.... then keeping it and having to order another for him could happen! lol! ;-)

This is the Forge de Laguiole model I have on order for him. It is in the 9cm closed length (any bigger may be too much for his Queens NY living). It has scales made of some sort of plant root... a burl wood of some sort like used for tobacco pipe bowls. The steel is Forge de Laguiole's standard T12 stainless (drop forged blade). I do not think he is a knife guy, but these knives are almost made to heirloom jewelery quality.... so maybe even as a novelty/conversation piece, he'll enjoy it. I am sure he'll get a kick out of it in some form or another :-)

Thanks... but tomorrow's gun show visit is now on "funds are low status". Oh well, maybe I'll find a great diamond in the rough knife for cheap money.... well, I can always hope, anyway! ;-)

This is awesome looking knife and a great size for urban carry. This knife is made for turning someone into knife guy :D Great gift.
Mike

Thanks... And yes, especially in NYC, where anything and everything is illegal :-( There was the 7cm version which I woud have ordered... but, at that size, the options did not have the back spring chiseled/engraved. I want him to get the full flavor of the Laguiole knife, and felt not having the engraving would have lacked that little extra something :-) So, the 9cm it is. My own specimen is a 11cm model, which down in NYC, is probably considered a butcher's knife, lol! ;-)
