I bit the bullet and have a XM-18 3.5 Skinner with a green and black scale on the way. I'm super excited. I'm already looking at anodized goodies and steel flame. Post me some pictures to help maintain my sanity until it comes!

Congratulations !!! Very popular grind, that Skinner.....!!!!

In addition to the fact that I think XMs are incredible knives......I really do enjoy the customization.......making it your own......and being able to take it apart and change it around any time you'd like to......
Some evenings, I'll just grab a glass of wine, turn on some music and tear down a few XMs......clean them and change the hardware or scales around.......I find the whole process fun and relaxing.......

There is definitely a lot of enjoyment to be had from the accessories and hardware you can go after........

I don't have any pics of Skinners for you.......but there are TONS in the pic threads......here are a couple of my favorite XMs to carry.....

If you have any thoughts of doing the anodized Ti replacement part thing, do yourself a favor and grab a bronze or blue (or both) pivot screw(s) now. The other anodized parts come and go, but the pivot screws and pocket clips tend to show up only one or twice a year. And the pivot screws happen to be available now. (BTW, if you buy only one color now, chances are that in a few months you'll decide you really like a scale that goes best with the other color.)

^^^^^ This guy, and most of the Hinderer community (when giving help/guidance) know what they're talking about. I agree wholeheartedly with everything he has stated. Although, Two is One and One is None....... so if it was me, I'd get two of each color (blue & bronze). Because chances are when you're inhibited by the addiction/hunger for more Hinderers....... only two pivot screws (one of each color) will not be enough to go around when your Herd just ups and decides to multiply without any respects to your wallet. :p

(P.S.) In reference to two pivot screws (one of each color)....... in my case I got a (3") blue & bronze screw and a (3.5") blue & bronze screw. Your mileage may vary, depending on if you prefer one size of Hinderer over another. Although, I highly recommend my selection (one of each color for each size) as stated above. Because as we all know....... curiosity killed the cat. And since you've got a 3.5" in route....... chances are down the road you'll want to explore other sizes. If not for any reason, but to scratch the itch. ;)

This is bad for my wallet. But can totally see myself changing out scales and screws on a regular basis. I didn't realize pivot screws were hard to come by because they are all over right now.

How often are titanium scales offered?

Generic answer is not often enough..especially for the textured type.

But looking into the future one can be hopeful a new batch will someday exist. I'd be all over them if textured. Most recent run if memory serves was awhile ago and were all smooth.

Not often........last time was almost 13 months ago........

And there were only 3 of them available, and they were pretty much covered in blood by the end of the fight over who got them.

But seriously, it wasn't much of an exaggeration when I said earlier that the best way to obtain one was to find someone who already had a Ti scale and offer to trade your car or house for it.

This is what I have on the way now:

I may need to refer my wife to one of you after she sees our credit card statement. Time to start hunting for a ti scale.

Hey... Hey ..... Body Armor can only do so much. We have our own Wives we're trying to survive.

The bronze Ti pivot screw, that's not too hard, just don't eat for a day or three. The skinner, well, you're on your own for that one :)

I read recently in another subforum (Busse Knives), "when I die, I hope my wife sells my knives for what they're worth, and not what I told her I paid for them."

In all seriousness......RHK has been working their asses off and ti scales are on the list.......Rob O. mentioned that some should be available "in the first part of 2015", I believe.......but there are a lot of people waiting......so it will be a MAD rush when RHK releases them........and there probably will be far fewer ti scales available than people who want them........

They can also be found on the Exchange occasionally (but you have to be there at the right time or someone else will scoop it up) and if you are really interested then you can actively hunt them down.......(follow Carl's directions)

Part of the fun of the accessories is the hunt.......it keeps you entertained and gives you something to do between XM purchases.......:D

The last time the pivot screws came around, after a long period of drought (what, end of last summer?), they announced it in their newsletter, and their webserver melted into a puddle under the press of all the faithful trying to get that one last piece they needed to complete their XM's. The last appearance of the pocket clips went much more smoothly, in comparison.

There is actually an amusing video RHK posted on their YouTube channel about the "behind the scenes" of a Flash Sale.......

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJCa6Hj1ZoU

There were a few XMs that were posted and thousands frantically hitting their refresh buttons out in the "ether"........the XMs were gone in......well.....I don't want to spoil the ending for you.......

Moral of the story......be ready and hope to get lucky.......
