Hey folks, I ordered my first sebenza, a small plain 21 on Wednesday not knowing that the dealer I ordered from and nearly all of his staff was unfortunately trapped aboard the stranded carnival cruise ship until a few hours ago. Needless to say, the anticipation is killing me. So to pass the time, and further prepare myself for the beginning of what I anticipate will be the next step in my knife journey, I'd like to hear some thoughts as to what exactly I am in for carrying a small 21 on a daily basis. My only worry is the steel, I know I'm probably blowing it out of proportion but I happen to be a bit of a steel snob, cpm-m4, m390, and cts-204p are some of my favorite steels and are staples in my edc rotation and I'm just not sure the s35vn at 58-59 can keep up. Either way, I'm extremely excited and look forward to your responses in preparation for receiving my new sebenza. Thanks in advance.

What took you so long?
The small is a perfect EDC, so to say.
Not sure how you are going to use it, but the steel should hold up nice.
The only thing you have to be warned is, you'll soon find yourself in the need of a large one.
While in an urban environment the small is perfect everything looks a little smaller when you get outdoors, at least that's my impression.
Anyway; Congrats and welcome to the craze.

Have you watched the recent shop interview videos?

Thanks guys, I guess you could say the cost had scared me off until this point, and actually, the shop tour videos were a big part of what finally sold me on CRK knives. I debated long and hard on small vs large, and while I feel I might actually like the large a bit better, the small is just more practical for me and my uses in the long term. I want to carry this knife, and use it as much as possible, and I think I may hesitate to do so in some circumstances had I went with the large. I can definitely see myself wanting one (or several) in the future though. Oh man, the wait is killing me!!

My advice: trust Chris to use the best knife steel for his knifes, and don't worry about logos and that sort of thing. Just enjoy a high quality knife.

Not sure if this will excite you, but you're about to own the best production folder ever made IMO.
I've bought custom locking knives, but never have kept them. Prefer the Sebenza over any I've had.
The compact size for the blade length you get, the quality, and the straight handle are the things I like the most.

I'm sure you're right. And it's not that I feel the s35vn is a poor choice, I have many blades in s30v that perform just fine, I guess I just have been spoiled by some of these high hardness, high carbide volume super steels. I have the proper tools to sharpen the more wear resistant steels so the increased sharpenability of the s35vn at a lower hardness doesn't really benefit me much. I'm sure I won't be disappointed in the performance of the knife or the steel used, it's the low hardness I'm not sure I'm sold on. Time will tell I guess, still haven't heard anything from KW (I assume Roger gave his staff the day and the rest of the weekend off after that whole cruise ship fiasco...), so I'll have to wait until early next week to find out for myself.

My first sebbie is at my door! I unfortunarly am still at work. Like you, I got the small 21. I will carry the heck out of it.
My spydercos are going to be jealous.

What got me to by my first sebbie?.............

My Mnandi that I got two weeks ago!

I think it's exciting that you will be able to test this knife out and determine if it's right for you and your uses.
One of the things I like about CRKs is the ability to break down the knife, clean it, center the blade, reassemble. This procedure is encouraged by the maker who includes the tool to do so with your purchase.

I am new to Sebbies as well. i ordered a large and sold it for a small because i carry mine in urban area and it scares less people. I have been carrying mine for a few days and LOVE IT i actually look for things to cut. I got the carbon fiber version from knifeart, with the S35VN. its super sleek looking and doesn't scare clients when i take it out to open a box. now i need a new custom lanyard for it. :) But i wish i had the large still so i had both versions :( . in time i guess. soon as i get more cash ill either buy another sebbie with the inlays or an umnumzaan.

I have a large insingo in s35vn and I maintain the edge by stroping every couple of weeks to keep it semi convex and I have no complaints with the steel for my uses. I am not breaking down cardboard boxes every day but it does get used. You might take a little time to really love it but if you use it, you will definitely learn to appreciate it. Enjoy!

I too orderd from the same distributer, Im just assuming because the shipping on mine was pushed back over a week due to that issue. However I got my first Sebenza today and I am already hooked. I went with the large because everytime I try to carry a mini or small anything I never seem to carry them. This knife is my grail knife and even though the cost was almost twice that of my next most expensive folder, I would still rather use this knife for hard use. The others I fear I will hurt, The Sebenza just seem like a working machine.

Don't worry about the blade steel. What it gives up in edge retention it more than makes up for in toughness and corrosion resistance.

IMHO, the small Sebenza is the perfect EDC work knife. Small enough to legally carry anywhere I go (3" is the limit in DE) and fit in any pocket I have. Very light, very tough, rock solid lock, very easy to clean, holds a decent edge, highly resistant to corrosion.

To put it in perspective, I have only ever owned or operated four things I consider perfect: a BMW 325, an M-21 Sniper system, an IWC Mark XVI watch, and a Chris Reeves Small Sebenza. I hope to add a Mnandi and Professional Soldier to the list next year as my 50th birthday present.
