A few weeks ago, I purchased a Mark VI from an online dealer. I loved everything about the knife and sheath except the top guard. Just couldn't get use to it, so I sent it back.

Then, last night, it dawned on me. I'll bet I can special order a Mountaineer 2 in a Mark VI sheath and just move the keeper strap to the other side.

Sure enough, because of CRK's great customer service, that's what they are sending me. It will be my second and final One-Piece knife.

I've got an other (safe queen) Mtnr 2 sitting in my friends shop waiting for me to pick it up

I hope it's not going to be my last one piece though

I knew you would support me, Haze. :D

I should have known better on the top guard. I think this "special order" will be perfect.

:)

The single guard OPKs are defo. the way to go, they see so much more use than any of my others.

You're right. Everytime I picked up the Mark VI, my thumb naturally wanted to go on top. I tried moving my thumb in front and in back of the guard, but it just wasn't working. Looking back, I think I was dead set on getting a strap sheath and didn't think about doing a special order.

Here's a Chris Reeve newbie question along the lines of this thread, but was there ever a Shadow IV without the top guard? I like the spear point, but not the top guard.

CRK may have made a special run at one time, but I have never seen a single guard Shadow IV. I know they have a single guard Shadow III, but its much smaller. I like the double guard shadow IV and even the MKVI, but I can people liking the mountaineer II as well. All are great knives, I just always prefered the spear point and since the Shadow IV has that, thats what I always prefered. I love the Shadow I and Shadow III, so I am definately a spear point guy.

nyefmaker,

Are the blades on the Moutaineer 2 and Mark VI the exact same width?

Yep, I'm aware of the higher grind. What about blade width from spine to edge?

Same width according to their website.

From what I've seen on their website, and on the photo sticky, serrations are optional on the Project, MkVI, Mountaineer and Shadow lines, and the top cross-guard is optional on at least the MkVI and Shadow lines. Maybe on the Projects too.

They all have the same measurements. Here is a pic I took and sent to "JohnM" when he was looking. The mountaineer does have a higher grind, but it also has a slightly shorter swedge. Kinda like the difference between the jereboam I & jereboam II...Or like the new 28 YR Mark IV & Project II. They have the same clip point with swedge, but the mountaineer II's is slightly shorter. SO in that reguard, I would say the mountaineer II has a stronger tip because there is a little more metal in the tip. Hope this helps.............As far as serratated versions, I hate serrations, so CRK may or may not offer them on sellect models......I sold my project II because I did not like serrations. The only CRK I have with serrations is my "pachmayr" and thats a keeper because its so collectable. So the availability of serrations on certain models, I am not certain.

All the One-Piece are Awsome and you cant go wrong with any of them, I just like some more than others !

Thanks for all the replys! Now, to satsify my curiousity before my order arrives, has anyone put a Mountaineer 2 in a Mark VI sheath? How's the fit?

I haven't, but I would think it would be the same fit. The blades are essentially the same size, thickness, etc.

Received the Mountaineer 2 with the snap sheath. Fits like a glove. The knife in this sheath is an awesome combination!
