I really like them, but I noticed some chips/maybe cracks around the rivets of the micarta weaver..... I'm thinking about calling GEC..... It seems like a small issue, but I am concerned about the imperfections propagating in 20 years. Thoughts?

Slight imperfections mean it was touched by the human hand. Micarta is epoxy resin with some type of structure like paper or cloth. I don't think a crack can propagate like in wood.

Actually, Micarta is based on a thermoset phenolic resin similar to that used in pool balls, PC circuit boards, and some kitchen cutting boards. It is cured under high heat and pressure - which is why Micarta is stable and tough. This knife looks like it uses a paper-based phenolic laminate.

True at one time, but no longer.
"Micarta" is a trademark now owned by Norplex. They offer "Micarta" materials based on epoxy, phenolic, and melamine resins. Any of them can be officially called "Micarta".
