Hi!

I am from New Delhi, India. I have been eying the HI Khukuris since a long time and dying to order one. I wanted to know if you do ship to India? If you do, have you successfully had them shipped and received in the past?

I am looking to order a khukuri with 9-10" of blade. Which would be a good choice?

Thanks,

Hi Maverick!

You should e-mail Ms. Yangdu at himalayanimports.com. I am sure she can answer your questions.

Welcome to the best khukris on earth!

Why not train over to Nepal and pick one up from the source?

That would probably be easiest, or have her ship it direct from Nepal.

You're going to be looking at about a 15" kukri to get that blade length.
What kind really depends on what you want to do.

Welcome:)

I'd just shoot Yangdu an email. She'll know the best way to get you your blade. She's an absolute joy to do business with:)

Once again, welcome:thumbup:

Is that possible? I know that the workshop has a "no visitors" policy, but do they have any other outlets there?
No visitors policy and no outlets. They can ship from there for people in that part of the world. Email or Call Yangdu.

Hey Maverick, I'm also in South Asia at the moment (in remote southeast Bhutan, right across the border from Assam). I'd read an old post about a customer from India (I think Bangalore-based) who tried ordering a khukuri and ran into problems with Indian Customs, don't know if it finally got resolved or not. So, not wanting to take the same chance, I asked Aunty Yangdu to mail my recent order of khukuris to Bhutan, even though it would've been easier to have them shipped to Guwahati in Assam (3 hrs away) or my home in Sikkim.

However, knowing India, the customs officials in one part of the country may be more or less stringent than those in another, so who knows!

BTW, I spent part of my college years in Delhi - many happy memories :)

Thanks Sta94! Indeed, customs can be really illogical at times. I have mailed Yangadu and lets see what she has to say....

Hey you guys live in a fascinating and beautiful part of the world. I look forward to some pics from both of you.

Hey Wolf, I might post some pics from this part of the world, time permitting.

Maverick, best of luck. In case things don't work out, send me a pm, perhaps something can be worked out between Yangdu, you and me. I might have to visit North India (Delhi, Haryana) for business sometime within the next month or two, I can always carry a khuk or two with me if I do. Hate to have an HI enthusiast miss out cuz of somehting inane like customs trouble.

Looking at your photo's I hope Wolf_1989 gets the chance to see some of the sights first hand if he so desires.

I wish I had had the desire to travel through India/Nepal/Bhutan back in the days when my health would have been up to it. :(

I enjoyed your photo's very much. Was the dog at Ranikhet friendly enough to be patted or are there too many health issues to wisely do so ...I wouldn't have been able to resist whatever the risk. Of couse it is always wise to let basking dogs sleep!:p ;)

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks B C Molin for liking the pictures.

I spoke to Yangdu and she said that a khuk can directly be couriered from Nepal. Though it would save on time and shipping but I am not sure how the customs would react still. I am trying to locate some one who has successfully or otherwise tried this.... Until then i guess i would have to live without this beautiful tool....
