Ordering Direct From CRK

With my new found love of my large 31, I was curious about what you could order from CRK direct. Seems like you can only get the same variants you see on the dealer sites, unless you’re doing it just to get a few different hardware options. With the 31, at least at the moment, it seems you can only get the drop point blade, the Insigno isn’t even an option, though I assume it will be.

Do these options change depending on what’s available? Here I thought you could order different combos of options vs just getting a standard run knife, such as ordering satin finished scales with a stonewashed blade (instead of polished as they normally come). I know this would be a special order, but I thought that was the point of ordering direct and having to wait a year. Do they ever do this?

I think full satin scales (no inlay) would look great vs the bead blasted finish.

There’s some combinations they won’t do. Polished handles without inlays I’ve never seen. You could ask, but I think the answer is likely no.

Ya, I kind of wondered the same thing. Why would I place an order with a lead time of 9-12 months when I could just wait for a number of stores to get re-stocked with the same models. Maybe if there was something you didn't want to miss before it was discontinued? Or maybe a hard to find combo like a Damascus CCG?

Right, I guess I just figured there would be more mixing and matching ability. I know making custom requests is one thing, but it would be cool to “build” one to your liking with the options they have available at the moment between the different styles.

I noticed you can select thumb lug color on every model. I presume this is an oversight.

I’ve ordered a couple direct from CRK. Being a lefty you don’t get as many options as righty’s. One was a bit of luck on a 21 natural micarta and raindrop blade. It was after the 21 was discontinued, first of the year I believe. I couldn’t find one anywhere so I just contacted CRK to see if they knew of any. No dealers had one but they had one at the shop if I wanted it. I took it.

The other order was a large natural Inkosingo. After about two months of looking and waiting I just placed an order so I didn’t have to keep checking and waiting for them to come back in stock. Took about nine months. A few popped up at dealers at the exact same time.

The 31 I have on order is a large lefty PJ raindrop Damascus with gold hardware. That’s not one I’ll be able to find at a dealer
