I have been putting off ordering a new batch of belts. In the past I have tried several different brands and places to get them. It seems I forget what came from where, etc...Just pulled down the Tru-Grit price page.

What should I get? Norton Hoggers Ceramic, Norton Zironio Blue, 3M Trizact, Klingspor, HermesJ?

All comments appreciated. What is the best for the money? Or should I order elsewhere?

the best bet is to buy the best belts..they are the least expensive in the long run.. all of the belts you mentioned are good, each has a specific purpose and meets specific needs.....i use ceramic 60s and 100s, and blue belts up thru 400, cause i really like the flex....i have some of the trizac and they seem to never wear out.. but dont work very well on handle material at all, so i use the ones that work on both. trugrit has great prices, service, and john and his wife are super people...give them you business...

for handles i use those crappy home depot alox belts, they work fine. for blades i use ceramic 60 and 80, zirconia through 220, and silicon carbide to 600.

Tejas,
I have to agree with Tom Mayo, the better belts pay off in the long run, unless you do what I just did 15 minutes ago but that goes on the "What is the Stupidest Thing you ever did post".

I was in Texas Knifemaker's Supply this past week and Jim Lemcke is waiting on some new ceramic belts from AO Hermes. These are supposedly to be pretty good belts. They are supposed to absorb some of the heat, and of course they are blue....we all know that the blue belts are always better, right? (I hope you see the humor in that!)

I use the 3M Regalite 977's in 60 grit from Tru Grit to rough grind talonite. They are the only belt that are economicle to grind Talonite with. They outlast the Norton Hoggers 2 to 1 in this material. Tom is spot on in saying buy the best, they are cheaper in the long run.

I use blue zirc's and klings and se that the blue's will last a little longer but for the
price that I get klings for it does'nt make
them any better. Try James Poplin with Pop
knives and supplies. He's in the knives 99
ro 2000 book he's been doing it for a long
time and his service is outstanding. He has
other things than belts also.
