Ordering, which one to get, Fallkniven S1 A1 or ESEE 6

Guys, got online today to order me a new ESEE 6. Already have the Izula II, 3 and 4. Love me some ESEEs!

Also got a Fallkniven F1 in and was super impressed with the knife. SSo impressed it caused me to have cold feet on the ESEE 6.

I wil end up with all three of the knives listed over the next month or two at the most but can only buy one of them right now because I am also placing an order for a Swamp Rat too.

I am wanting a larger knife than the ones I have. Can't decided is the 6.3" blade will be too big on the A1 to be my top pick.

Now I have heard all the argument but I like to baton some firewood. I dont depend on it but I like to do it. Kind of figured the S1 might be a little short for this or not as preferable and to be honest, I wont baton that much. More like do some cause I like to do it and when I have my feel of it I wont be doing it. I'd say this knife will see 15% baton time and the rest just general camp/bushcraft task.

So being a wennie about all this and having you guys decided.

You can only pick one, let the poll begin to see what I am ordering this evening.

If it was your money, what would you buy? A1, S1 or ESEE 6 remembering this is the 1st one you are buying and you will get the other two later on. Which one do you have to have first?

Thanks for your input.

Definitely the A1. Its a awesome knife and tough as nails. The ergonomics are great, better than ESEEs. It saved me once on a wet, cold and truly miserable overnighter, so it has a special place in my collection.

With a 6 mm thick laminated blade, this thing will baton anything you throw at it. I carry mine in a Spec Op sheath. Fits it like a glove.

I have the S1 and it's an awesome blade. Excellent vg10 laminated steel, good handle material, comfortable in the hand, ease of sharpening, sheath is awesome and you can choose between leather or kydex. If I were you, Iwould buy the S1 forest knife or the A1.

Where did you get that sheath? Do they make some for the S1?? It's awesome!

I have an NL4 so pretty much the same as an S1 and really like it. my criteria was much the same and thought the A1 would be a bit to big around camp once I got some battoning out of my system

You bet. Its called the Spec Ops Combat Master sheath. It comes in 3 different sizes and colors. Its a very well made sheath with great materials and stitching. Not like the other crappy nylon sheaths on the market.

I've got to buy one of these, looks like an awesome sheath, and the pocket in fronts looks like it would fit a Fallkniven DC4 sharpening stone, and maybe a small fishing kit?

I just checked with my own DC4, and it fits just fine with room to spare. A simple fishing kit would fit too and there would still be room for a firesteel and tinder.

To the OP, sorry for derailing the thread. At least it's still A1 related :D

I think if you will eventually get all three over the next couple months it does not really matter which one you get first. That said I am partial to ESEE and the 6 is my go to camp knife. Hard to beat the price for value, warranty, and made in the USA by a US company.

Ok, so here is where I am at to I can total easier:

So far, Fallkniven S1 is ahead with 3 votes, the A1 has 1 vote and the ESEE 6 has 1 vote

Keep 'em coming guys!

S1 any good for batoning some?

I baton a lot with my S1, tho it is shorter than the A1 it is still a good batoner. The edge is realy easy to maintain, the A1 also since its convex, if you have good knife discipline. The handle on both is really comfortable, it almost stick to your hand when wet, and with gloves its also good in the hand. Personnally, the reason I chose the S1 is only because its shorter, thats all.
