DIRECTIONS TO LANE EVENTS CENTER

From 1-5 take exit 194B. Stay on I-105 West until the end (it crosses over the Willamette River and curves to the left). I-105 ends at 7th and Jefferson. Proceed straight ahead on Jefferson to 13th (stay in the right hand lanes to avoid being forced to turn on 11th). Drive through the intersection at 13th & Jefferson, and you have now entered the Lane County Events Center and Fair Grounds property:

I agree, This is one of the best shows ever if you like knives. All around the huge room are cased collections brought in at the owners expense just for show. There are over 400 tables of knives to see or purchase. Knives everywhere you look. I've been going to this show for about 15 years, some of the old timers have been active members since day one, 36 years ago. Some of their collections are being sold out. I like looking at the antique slip joints and bowies. Knife making materials too, ivory and stag and of coarse Marks 4 tables of choice woods.

Ray and Wayne will get all up my butt because I beat this drum every year, but the OKCA show isn't what it was back in the early '90's....at that point it was really something. It had the same energy on Friday and Saturday that Blade Show does......it doesn't anymore.

When I go, which is about every 2-3 years since 2006, I'll show up on Friday at 3:00 pm or so, leave around 6:00 pm....come back Saturday around 11:00 am and stay for a couple of hours, then it is back to Portland for PARTY TIME!!! I like to see my friends, purchase the occasional knife, which usually has been pre-ordered and look at the displays.

It is a show that has lost it's "juice" for me...I will give you all a little secret though.....IF you are serious about custom knives(and a lot of you "collectors" are dubious) go see Tommy Clark from Blue Ridge Knives. See if he has anything you might like, ask him if he has anything back at the shop you might like. Take the effort to get to know him...the guy is a certifiable treasure....and a great person. As long as he keeps doing the OKCA Show, it can't be that bad.

Steve, None of the shows are the same as the 90's. There seems to be some renewed interest in the show this year at least from a number of the makers. Anyway this is still my favorite show of the year. See you next year maybe.

Are any of the Montana Mafia going?

The Blade Show is at least as good now if not better than it was in the '90's imo....yep, maybe see you at OKCA next year, Ray!

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

I don't believe any of the M&M gang will be there. I did see several of them at the Rocky Mountain Show this past fall. Now I won't be to surprised if I see you there. :D Sure wasn't expecting to see you last year. I'm heading out around 11am tomorrow morning.

Bruce, I got first picks on the ivory.
