Just checked out the show in Eugene, my first big show, and it was very interesting. The first thing I noticed was that a lot of knives I've seen pics of and thought were cool, both production and handmade, didn't actually please me that much in person. I saved a lot of $$ that way alone! Second, there are a lot of custom knifemakers out there, but a whole lot of them makes knives with clearly inferior fit & finish & ergonomics & balance to today's production knives. Especially disappointing were the huge amount of stiff, poorly-designed liner-locks on display. But there are certainly some standouts, really quality stuff. A couple things that really impressed me:

Okuden's latest generation A2 tactical fixed blade is sweet, great ergos and balance.

Shane Seibert, same but maybe more so, his knives fit the hand like a glove, just a pleasure to hold!

Mac Kenzie had some very straightforward tacticals that felt great in the hand.

Tim Galyean, a guy from Kershaw who studied under Ken Oonion, has some BEAUTIFUL flipper frame-locks that scream "Onion!" but at half the price or less. They are smooth as silk (well, one was smoother than the other but both were super) and just a delight to play with. This guy will go places.

Plus many of the prices are high, but there are also some great deals. There were some guys selling Elishewitz folders at insanely low prices, I may go back for a Stryker tomorrow. Another guy had a Kershaw Whisper for $150, a very cool little blade.

Anyway, it was very interesting & I may go back, if you are anywhere near Eugene I recommend checking it out!
