I've had this knife done for a few days but wasn't sure how I wanted to work the sheath since I was going to use moose rawhide a friend had given me. This was the first time messing with it and I'm sure once the rawhide is gone I'll leave it alone but still it works well with this knife. I forgot to measure the knife but I'm sure the blade is just over 6", made from L-6. The fittings are wrought iron and the handle is a real old weathered piece of mule deer crown. Its around 12" overall......

Looks like you hit it right Ray. I was afraid you were going to get a little fancier. You found just the right balance (as usual).

Great looking pair!

Thanks, Don I'm going to have to either go back and try to tighten up the stitching or just bite the bullet and replace it. Once the rawhide dried out it all got loose.

I like it. Very clean style...not overly done.

I am noticing alot of use of wrought iron by alot of you guys. I like the character it adds to the pieces.

Loooks Coool!!! Damn I have been trying to get this pig sticker done for 2 week and you made at least 2 that you have posted. :( :( Is that moose scrotum around the throat of the sheath????  :D I really hope it ain't Clinton's. :D :D

Moose scrotum?

I have been planning a pair of rat scrotum boots for years, but I can't seem to catch enough rats!

Doc

IG, Clinton has still got his scrotum. There's no sense in keeping him around if he didn't have one.

Doc, When Clinton gets put down I'll send you his scrotum. You should be able to get a couple boots out of it......... :D

Dude we shouldn't go there   :D :D
When Clinton told her to haul ass, she made two trips.  :D

I"m just stupid crazy about your work. Tell me, how thick is the blade?? in thousandths? is it old crosscut saw blade? are you heat welding two pieces together so's to make it thicker?, or just useing a single piece of material.

regards, mitch

Mitch, The L-6 that I used for this knife came from Admiral Steel better than 4 years ago. I don't do anything in 1000's. When I bought the material it was a fat 3/16 X 1" wide. At the top of the blade at the guard I'd say its still pretty close to 3/16" but it has a full distale tapper. I hope this answers your question.

Don, What I've been doing is useing leather dye for my color. I start with black at the crown, put chocolate in the middle and then a tan towards the front then I blend them in and quite often go back untill I'm happy with the color. I also sealed it with several coats of 1 part tong oil, 1 part linseed oil, and two parts acitone. Paint thinner can be used instead of the acitone but with the colder weather the acitone is much quicker.

The rawhide sheath turned into a doggy chew toy. I thought it was all dried out when I took the picture but I guess it was 98% dried out. Tried to get the knife in it yesterday and there was no way it was going in. I made this new one out of leather and buckskin. I'm going to have to try the stuff they make women's panty hose out of, one size fits all......

That looks nice. The other one was cool too and it was a very original idea to put a nut sack on it. :D
