This arrived in the mail today, but I'm a bit clueless as the origin or purpose.

It's a 34OT, completely normal in every way except a blade etch that reads, "Lumber King 1992."

In general terms I know what a "lumber king" is, the timber equivalent of a "cattle baron" or "steel baron." But why would this be etched on the knife? The name of a lumber store perhaps?

------------

Aha! A quick search located a building supply company called Building King with locations in the Lexington, Kentucky area. The eBay seller is located in Harold, Kentucky, not far away. http://www.lumberking.com/

Mystery solved?

I emailed the seller in case they had any information. Is the Lumber King blade etch related to the Lumber King Building Supply near Lexington?

"I'm not sure could be that's pretty close to us (Lexington)."

I think the answer is "probably."

Note on their history the significance of 1992. I would say yes, it was likely an SFO commem given to employees who bought stock options that year.

That's certainly possible. I also considered that it might be an SFO that was sold in their stores.

I need to take a picture and post it; those eBay auctions aren't viewable for very long after the action ends.

$16 for and unused 34OT? I wonder if the blade markings aren't a turn-off for some buyers? Of course it didn't have a box either, and with so many NIB examples available why settle for one without? I also think most of the eBay "competition" was asleep at the wheel that day because of the SuperBowl football game; I found a few bargains that day.

Just thinking out loud...
