While it seems incontrovertible that the urethra-invading parasitism of the candiru fish (Vandellia cirrhosa) is untrue, what on earth inspired the designer/producer of the candiru knife to name it after a fish that reportedly swims up a man's urine stream and embeds itself with spikes into his urethra?!?

What's next, the Becker bubonic, Gerber gastroenteritis, Randall rabies, Muela malaria, Leatherman leishmaniasis? OK, I've run out of diseases and got that off my chest.

Or name a knife after an ant whose sting hurts like holy hell....

It's a theme, and I'm betting a bit of humor was involved.

I like the "Becker Bubonic". Make it slime green or bright orange. As for the Candiru, perhaps its name references how the knife tears up material like that awful fish tears up you know what. :D

All of ESEE's smaller knives are named after despicable creatures; Candiru, Izula, Zancudo...

Looked up the bullet ant/izula and now I get it: Tiny mean things are the namesakes of their smaller knives.

They aren't so much disease - but tiny pesky animals. How about a Gerber Gnat, or a Microtech mosquito, or a fiddleback flea, or...

Cold Steel Chupacabra!

I guess doing their survival courses in South America, Jeff Randall and Mike Perrin got first-hand experience with those nasty creatures. That and a twisted sense of humor :D

Definitely a heavy sense of humor involved and a large dose of "can we get away with this?" As well as "we don't care what anyone thinks."

I suggested the ''Becker pecker'' for the BK-15. Apparently my brilliant insight was over looked. :)
