Origin of the Scout Knife?

Not necessarily any BSA knife, but origins of a basic design. I searched and was overwhelmed with Beer Scout knives!
A friend is wondering...
 
Tell your friend; Bernie Levine has a couple of good encapsulations in LGIV! Everyone should own that book!!:D
The BSA was established ~ca 1910. The already-in-existence 4-blade utility knife was designated "the Official Scout Knife" in 1911-1912.
Only New York Knife was allowed to use the designation until 1922!
