I have a new ASHBM that should be here in a couple days but I have a question. I used to own a 1/300 SHBM a few years back and was hoping someone could take a couple side by side pictures of them so I could see what the changes are. I know the new one is thicker but that's all I know for sure. Think I read it's a bit longer in the grip. Maybe a side by side and a stacked picture if anyone has both and the time.

I would appreciate any insight from the people who have owned both as what they think of them and if they liked the changes. Appreciate it guys.

Sorry, I don't have any pics. I have owned a SHBM and used a mates ASHBM during a day of chopping. We had them back to back. There are handle changes that make the new one much nice to use. More comfortable and less problems around the pinky finger. The new one chopped much better and was nicer all round to use. A proper Hog will chime in soon to confirm this.

Chris.

I believe the specs show its around an inch longer overall. Is it a half inch in the grip and the other half on the blade?

I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum , the old one "TO ME" is my favorite, i think it comes down to hand size, I have a medium hand , and the old Shbm suites me perfectly , I get No bite or vibration when chopping , it bites deep and stay sharp , I would imagine you can't go wrong either way , but if I had to choose, I would choose the older version .

Also, not sure why, the new one makes more of a thudding sound , my older one makes a ding when hit , I kinda like the ding over the thud , but once again personal preference .

I agree 110%, the old school smooth handle SHBM 1/300 cannot be beat

Hey Brother been a long time since we last spoke!!! Here is some pics and a little info.
ASHBM-11.075" blade length @ .320" thick
SHBM, 1/300-10.240" blade length @ .274" thick

I see NO real difference in the hilt shape and hand grip inside of the Talon/Pommel holes, at least not enough to matter or enough to really be discernible. Overall length yes (see pic).

That's perfect brother, thanks. When you gonna make it out from AK? We need to get together. Take care brother, and I see you are selling your older SHBM, I take it you prefer the newer version? Mine won't arrive till Thursday, I will know my preference then.

My ASHBM showed up today. It's definitely got some more weight to it. There were some sharp edges where the tubes were counter sunk to hold the scales on, some 320 grit fixed that. I love it though. Might send it back to Busse to thin the sCale's out a bit, I have little girl hands I think. My old SHBM felt like a large knife you could chop with if needed. The ASHBM is more like a chopper that you could use as a knife if needed, if that makes any sense. Hopefully my MashedCat sheath will be here in a couple weeks, then I will take her out for an overnight trip and see how she does.

Well, I preferred my older version. The ASHBM is built well, love the style, but it was not for me. I worked a trade to get my B11 back, that one fit my hand and weight wise, just fit me better. I do want a SHBM again though, I will be on the look out for the old school version, want one of those again. who knows, maybe Jerry will do another run at .25 or .27 thick and have an option for standard scales and not the magnums. I would buy one of those.
