About 1980 I purchased a Cold Steel Tanto. The blade is not marked "Made in Japan" and I understand the first blades were made possible by Gerber but then after an incident involving the testing of the knives Gerber refused to continue to make the blades and the manufacturing moved to Japan. Is that true does anyone know? Is there any collectors value to a USA made Tanto? Later I also bought an "Outdoorsman". It has been through 15 deer and antelope in the last 17 or so years and it is still like a razor with only a few passes over the fine stones of the Sharpmaker. The ax back has busted bone and cut the legs off rabbits with zero damage. The knife still looks like new. I guess it too has long been since discontinued. Any information would be appreciated......Bob

I can't help you with the production history that you seek. The "Outdoorsman" was discontinued, but will be manufactured again in 2001 according to the Cold Steel web-site.

Bimmer....that is great news as the "Outdoorsman" is the best hunting blade I have ever owned......Bob
