Hey all this is a question from a newbie and maybe a dumb one but how rare are original emersons? Any thoughts would be appreciated first one I've seen had a benchmade pocket clip is that common on them so he didn't make his own or a replacement?
Thanks

A) You can't ask what a knife is worth on here

B) It is worth what someone is willing to pay for it...

Lots of folks buy clips from other manufacturers and put them on other knives. I have used Spyderco clips on CRK's in order for it to ride deeper in the pocket.

Emerson and Benchmade had a partnership where Benchmade produced the CQC 7 or Spec war. This is probably what you've seen. They've since had a falling out and discontinued them.

He actually did use Benchmade clips on his hand made folders once-upon-a-time - some were sterile, some (rather obviously) had the "Benchmade" buffed out, and I even saw one or two which still had it on them.

A custom-made Emerson -- if this is what you mean by "original" -- is worth a lot. Some of the rarer production models are also worth a good bit, like the rhino-style folder. Even a common used Emerson will be worth close to what it costs new, provided it's in good shape. Decent value retention IME.

The Benchmade models Emerson collaborated on were the 970 and 975 (regular and super). These are very similar to the CQC-7 and the Super CQC-7, respectively.
