I have 2 original model LMF sawbacks, #26123 and #34159 that I recently acquired, along with 2 different sheaths. One sheath has the alice clips and the other has none (just a slot for a belt to pass thru). Can anyone tell me what year these were made and which sheath goes with which? I'm looking to sell #34159 as it is as new, and want to ensure the proper sheath goes with it. The other has been sharpened and should be a great hunting knife. Thanks.

Welcome to Bladeforums. I have an original LMF sawback as well. Unless they had more than one sheath, the one without the alice clips would be the correct sheath.

My LMF (no sawback) has the sheath with the wire hanger made for Alice belts & gear.

Hmm.. thanks for the input, however the two replies left me where I started. One cites the sheath without the clips is correct and one cites the one with the clips is correct.. lol.. I wish Gerber showed the production lists for the years along with pictures.

Any idea if these 2 knives; #26123 and #34159 were made in the same year? Maybe that would be the determining factor! Again, THANKS!! TM

From a little poking around, both sheaths, scabbards are likely correct. I am unable to retrace my steps to a page that lists a breakdown of numbers by years but there used to be one out there. The one without the clips for web gear is likely after 1990. If both blades are identical, a guess would be they are both from around 1990, as there is some difference between early and late blades as well (from what I am reading).

Funny thing though (but they may have never eliminated them) My later production BMF scabbard does have the clips.

I am honestly forgetting where I saw the numbers breakdown but it was a page pretty much dedicated to Gerbers. I'll keep an eye out for it. It was an independant collector/seller page.

Cheers

Hotspur; Cutler's Cove may have an info page buried somewhere

I have an LMF as well bought in 1996 maybe. It had no alice clips, but mine also has no sawtooth.Sounds like they may simply have had multiple sheaths for the knife.

I would like to think that when you mention "ALICE clip" versions; in that, you actually meant "Bianchi clip"?

That being the case, Biachi clips were probably a feature on earlier Gerber sheath versions (mostly military line); which also added to the overall cost of the package. Complaints, pros 'n cons about such a contraption for a knife sheaths varies from the usefulness of having the blade sheath quickly detachable from the belt, to being uncomfortable to wear; as in causing pain on the sides. Take your pick.
You're lucky to have a Bianchi sheath all the same.

Ahh.. yes, they are bianchi clips and not alice clips. I reverted to my load-bearing-equipment LBE military days when alice clips attached everything to a military pistol belt. Thanks for your input!! I have the like-new LMF on ebay as we speak! Thanks again for your help. It's much appreciated. TM
