So when I was a teenager my dad gave me his original Gerber multi plier that he no longer used.
He never used it much in general, but did basically ruin the blade in short order on an electric knife sharpener so I never used it either and religated it to my toolbox for occasional light use.

Well today I grabbed it to use the file, but when I went to fold it and put it away the pliers would no longer slide out and I noticed that the rivet was sticking out.
I took it apart and realized the head of the rivet and popped it's way through the washer or whatever it is, and that piece was no where to be found.
I don't know if it could be warrantied or anything, so I decided to just turn one side into sort of a serrated blade folding knife since the serrated blade was never used.

I may actually try to carry it this weekend and see how it works, but I'm not sure if I want to chop the end down or not.

I have some hand tools that were my Pap's and maybe a few passed from his father . I will often use them in preference to my newer and better ones .

In my case the tools I have from my grandfather pretty much are the better ones.
My favorite pliers are a pair of Snap On vacuum grip needle nose from the early 1960's, or his original champion Dearment channellocks from 1933.
Both still function perfectly.
My only pliers that didn't belong to him are the channellock #526 slipjoints o bought a few months ago at the hardware store.
Im not the type to just automatically love every tool that belonged to my grandfather though, I have but never use his 20oz framing hammer Because its fat heavy fibreglass handle makes it feel very unwieldy in hand.

I have no clue why this Gerber broke Because I never used it heavily, but now I'm kind of glad my dad gave it to me so It didn't break on him at work.
I tried multiple times to get him to take it back so he wouldn't have to use a Chinese POS, but I think he had really bought this one on impulse and never really liked it that much.
