Original retail $ for Carbon Fiber ladybug?

I just got my hands on a Ladybug with a Carbon fiber handle and ats55 blade. This is the coolest thing ever! I always like the ladybug, but I hate AUS6. I also always wanted to have a carbon fiber model of some sort.

I have no idea when it was made or how much it cost at the time. It had a couple rust spots on it, maybe from lengthy storage, but otherwise unused looking, though they had no box for it. They only wanted $40 for it and I went out expecting to pay $50 or so for an old model Delica if I could find one, so I grabbed this super cool little knife instead. I am curious to know how much it would cost if it were a current model. $40 seems cheap considering the steel and handle material. Google doesn't find one at all.

None of my catalogs show the CF Ladybug at all, so am no help with the MSRP. Know I was very happy to find one a few months back for $45.

Do wonder how CF holds up on a key ring knife compared with micarta. I have been very impressed by how well the finish on my burgundy Jester has stood up to two years of use on my key ring. Was even more impressed when someone recently showed me a Baby Goddard they've been carrying on their key ring for the past ten years which looked almost as good. Would love to see a CF Ladybug that has been in similar service for a few years.

This is my first carbon fiber knife and I don't feel like "putting it to the test." :) Maybe when the new Merlin/Harpy arrives I will carry it around a lot.

I sure wish I owned them all. I own some of the knives that are in the pictures. Others I have owned in the past. I don't have that many "Q" knives. They are very spendy for the rare ones and it is hard to justify so much money in a small knife that will never use. I still like them. Like most collectors I tend to specialize in a certain size or model, or whatever catches my attention. With the variety of Spyderco knives out there you can spend a lot of time hunting down knives and if you are lucky finding a treasure now and then. If you look at the links that I have listed on my site you will find sites of fellow collectors that also have excellent Spyderco websites.

I believe the last list price was $69.95. Hope this helps.
Thanks spyderwa, to my mind, it's alway good to have a "baseline" to work from and MSRP is great for that. Will add that info to my collection of Spyderco prices.

Carl, I've actually been toying with the idea of getting a sample of the thin CF that DragonPlate sells and using it to "plate" an FRN Jester, just to have something in CF that I don't mind using. Will be interested in hearing how your Harpy stands up, but still think a key ring is a more "hostile" environment than a pocket, unless you're inclined to carry your knife and loose change in the same one.

I might try it if I could find a knife I could easily replace the scales on. I don't want to have to find new rivets or pins. I might carry the harpy in my pocket. I sometimes go clip-less with the FRN delica.
