Original SOG Bowie Knife?
Would anyone have any idea of the value of this knife?

1. I am an Australian Ex-Serviceman who did two tours of Vietnam as an Infantry Soldier.
2. In 1971 on my second tour of Vietnam I acquired a knife and scabbard/sheath from an American 5th Special Forces Operative Soldier in Bien Hoa.
3. From my research I believe the knife is an original Special Forces Group Bowie Knife which is a classic and rare knife.
4. The Studies and Observation Group was used in covert missions and is an excellent field knife.
5. The Original SOG Bowie Knife is one of the most collected pieces by knife enthusiasts around the world.
6. I have owned this original knife for 35 years
7. The specs of the knife are as follows :-

Overall Length
10 ½ inches (26.5) mm

Blade
Length 5 15/16 inches (177 mm)
Gun blued carbon steel blade
Width near hilt of blade ¼ inch (6 mm)

Handle
Epoxied, stacked leather handle
Length of handle from the hilt to the brass end 4 ½ inch (115 mm)

Scabbard/ Sheath
High Quality leather equipped with a special sharpening stone

Your knife is not made by the SOG knife company but is what they used as the inspiration for their SOG S1 Bowie. Depending on condition, provenance, and design (there were several variations) your knife could bring over $2000 USD.

Welcome to Bladeforums. :D

Sounds like you have a nice one, do you have any pictures of this knife ?

Robbie Roberson. ;)
Robbie,
I have photographs of the knife but I am unsure how to upload them as they apparently require a URL.

A pic would be great if you could post one :)
Maverick,
If you could enlighten me about exactly how to post a photo if it doesn't have a URL I would be happy to oblige.

If you e-mail a pic to me, I can post it for you as well.

Better yet, mail me the knife and I'll photograph it for you (at no charge! ) and post the pictures.

Earlier in the week I posted the information below. I am now including the pictures of the knife which may be viewed at the website above.
Can anyone please tell me of the best way to sell my knife?
Thanks to all of the people who previously replied.

Carl, dremel or drill press sanding drums from home depot etc. works great. Just tape sharp edges very well before getting near either.

Sharp blades just love to bite dremels and sander drums at high speeds.

Or......as a last resort.........very course large round files will make nice grooves in leather handles.

Hey! How about posting this in the general discussion or have a mod move it there? It's a beautiful piece
