Anyone else got an original Ti Military, without the steel lock insert? I'm very interested to know how others have held up. Mine is one of my favorite knives and I carry it all the time, but I'm a little concerned, as I figure Spyderco added the lock bar insert for a reason. I do my best to take good care of my Millie; I don't abuse it or even use it particularly hard, nor do I ever flick it.

I guess what I'm really asking here is if I'm likely to encounter any issues regarding lock wear in the future. If so, how would Spyderco respond were I to call them?

With that thick blade stock and thick lockbar I think it highly unlikely you will wear that lock out. Mine is a later model that has the steel insert but I wouldn't be concerned if it didn't.

I think lock bar inserts are mostly marketing. Don't worry too much. If you use it enough that it wears down you'll be attached enough to it that you won't mind the slight blade play. It shouldn't become dangerous or anything.

I agree with Allhss. Any knife you " wear out " is a knife you love more than functionally. I personally love well used blades.....as long as I'm the one who wore them out😝

The lock on mine wore across the tang VERY quickly.
So, as I tend to fix issues myself, out came the punch, 3 pound sledge, and off I went to the 75 pound anvil.
Peened that lock-bar, and now it has a nice solid lock-up at about 50%.
It's now one of my brother's most used work knives. :)

As far as I know, I have the first Ti Military released "into the wild". It arrived about a month before they started showing up at dealers.

The lockup on mine hasn't changed at all, but I find it too heavy and too cold to carry, so it hasn't seen much use.

Looks great. I agree though. I prefer the weight of the fluted frame.

Thanks for the great posts, everyone! I guess I'll just use it like I would any other folder & not worry about it. If there are any problems, I'm sure Spyderco will help a loyal customer out. :)
