Original unused super thin Link Select axe handle

I don't know what year this handle was produced but it was obviously made with the user in mind. I've used this handle as a reference for shaping some of my own handles, previously i hadn't realized quite how thin you can get away with until stumbling across this original Link Select handle.

Yes, the old axe handles were so nice and thin and beautifully shaped. I have a few original handles on some of my heads and they are all very thin.
 
if it's noticably thin I'd bet closer to 5/8" I aim for 11/16 when I'm "fixing" factory handles, but some of my vintage handles are slimmer than that.

Although.....I don't have any handles as long as 36" so maybe that makes a difference. I bet 5/8" thick would seem a lot thinner on a 36" handle than a 29 incher.
