Can anyone tell me how much a khuk from WW2 would be worth - ngood condition. I have opportunity to get 2 but don'nt know how much to offer !!

You're in a lucky position!
I can't say a price, because it depends on the condition and how sure you are of provenance. It also depends on who's selling it- If he's an antique dealer you've got no chance of a bargain! If they don't know what to ask I'd be inclined to offer low(you might be surprised by the response), and you can always offer more if they tell you to go to hell. Good luck.

I have no idea.

Anyone want to trade something for my Father's Nazi flag? It came back from France with the man who paratrooped in to fight.

It's been sitting in my mates' (new acquintance) mothers loft for the last 30 odd years - it even made it through some british weapon hand in law !! i was teeling him about my khuks (hes a lawyer and I was trying to find out about the law concerning my beauts) and he said his mother has a few lying around !! Turns out they have serial numbers and all !!! Deffenitly original !!!

No matter how hard I try, I've never yet uncovered a hidden cache of single action army Colts, had a relative who 'just happened' to have an old 1886 Lever around, or found a single thing of significance in attic or basement anywhere.

Your mate may want to hang onto those blades.

Things are bad in the US, not yet as insane as England or Australia regarding weapons laws. Imagine having to look up the code on a knife for legality...hey; we do that here!

munk

yep talk about insane gun laws ,here in australia one idiot goes an shoots about 35 people,an the good ol gov otlaws all seme auto rifles shotguns, pump actions does a mandatory recall destroys em all,
but leaves us to legaly own, semi auto pistols,of all calibres, lever action rifles ,shotguns ect ???????? go figure, talk about dumb govs, its not the weapon that kills its the person behind it.why dont they ban cars i could jump in mine rev her up whizz down the local shopping mall i reckon i could mow down more than a hundred.makes you wonder dont it soon no khuks ,we will only be able to use and own plastic knives and forks,an even then we will probably have to dispose of them as soon as we have eaten. HE HE HE OOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHH NNOOOOOOOOO.:( :( :)

Munk, maybe you should think about donating that flag to a museum, if you don't want to keep it. Just a suggestion, anyway. :)

I'm sure my Dad will do that or something else..but most museums have these flags already, I would bet. Not a big deal, I think the value is perhaps 100 or only 80 dollars.

I'll bet some of the neo Nazi groups in the US would pay more for the flag -- that is if you don't mind where it ends up.

WWII memorasbilia. He'd probably be interested, if its age could be verified. He's got quite a few flags, and could tell an authenitc piece on sight. He also has a bunch of helmets, shells, and other militaria, and much Nazi stuff. I guess people feel that stuff is collectible in the long run, although there's some bad mojo in that gear that Germany would like to forget...

Sending email to buddy, munk.

Is your buddies name Brian? Student? FSU?

I've hooked them up. BTW; I checked into prices and the flag max is probably 150 for that common type. A reproduction sells for 100. I don't get it.

There are some symbols that you just don't screw around with. Hanging up nazi flags is not good recomendation for a social club.

It's funny. I can't think of single symbol that is as universally damned. I don't want it, and when younger, I was an in your face guy, you know, for shock.

Brendan,
There's very little anyone can do without a much more detailed description or better yet photos. Do they have scabbards, what are the numbers or letters on them, check the Khukuri FAQ out and see if any of them look similar?

They both have scabbards - the same as the present BAS khuks offered by HI. The one had the serial no. C136 and the other I cannot rememnber. They were about half the thickness of the HI BAS's and a strange shape, they were full tang, with horn handles but the blade had more head than belly if you know what I mean !!

I think it was originally an ancient Assyrian religious symbol that was take over by the nazi's when they were coming to power. Prior to that, it was actually used as a design element in some buildings--having no political-social meaning whatsoever.

In Chicago, you could occasionally still see the symbol worked into the ceramic tiles of foyers or entry-ways in very old apartment buildings--perhaps because it lent itself to right-angles of the tile work.

Lemme see if this works:

swas·ti·ka (swŏs'tĭ-kə)
n.
An ancient cosmic or religious symbol formed by a Greek cross with the ends of the arms bent at right angles in either a clockwise or a counterclockwise direction.
Such a symbol with a clockwise bend to the arms, used as the emblem of the Nazi party and of the German state under Adolf Hitler, officially adopted in 1935"

But today, munk, as you say....it evokes an immediate response of "evil"

I know that it's ancient. There are also ones with 3-fold symmetry instead of 4-fold. Don't know it they have a different name.

The Soviets killed lots more than the Nazis. How come the hammer and sickle isn't reviled as much as the swastica?

There you go, applying logic to illogical situations. I talk and I talk, but NO body listens. We are humans! Not so much a rational animal, as a "rationalizing" one.

Somehow, We decide on our basket, and then go finding things that fit in it. For political, economic, or religious reasons...humanity has channelled it's nature into marvelous growth and atrocious cruelty... and then found reasons to pursue those avenues.

It may be that human beings are best left in small clan or group situations...30-40 people. We did that best, I think. The more there are of us, the more unthinkable our behaviors.

And yet...with a contradiction that can not be reckoned...the marvel of human behavior at times...goes beyond words or comprehension.

Go figger.

We're all in this together, somehow.

The swastika was used by several ndn tribes of the Southwest. They came together back in the late 30's or early 40's and signed a declaration that they wouldn't use it anymore since a mad man had taken the symbol and used it for evil.
However the swastika is still used in many cultures around the world including Nepal.
Seems like one of my khuks came with a swastika on it or on the scabbard, I'm pretty sure but not positive. Maybe one of these days I will be curious enough to check them all out again to see for sure.
Mom told me that it was an ndn symbol for eternity and was called "The Twirling Timbers."

>>>> Kismet

Well, Kismet, if we manage to destroy ourselves, if anything is left at all it will be in the small clans of 30- 40 people..hunter/gatherers
