What do you guys think of Oris watches? I was looking at the big crown model, and thought it looked pretty good for the money.

What do you guys think?

Oris watches are considered to be very good.

I don't have one myself I have heard other watch nuts who do have one say that they consider it to be the equal of other pricier watches in their collection.

Personally I don't like the ETA-2824 movement all that much, so the fact that the Big Crown comes with the 2836 is a big plus in my book.

Oris also has a great tendancy to extensively modify their standard ETA movements to create something much more unique.

Thanks Fishbulb, I really would like to get a Sinn watch, but the Oris is much closer to my price range.

I have had an Oris dress watch for a couple of years now and for the money they are superb value.

I love the see through back case and sometimes spend ages just looking at the movement (sad I know :D )

We have an outlet village just near us at home and got about 60% of retail, it ended up about £110.

I've heard great things about the Oris line. I considered one before I got my Omega but I just got a better deal on my Seamaster. If you want to find them at a fair price check out:

They have alot of the collection, they are just beautiful!

I've had an Oris Big Crown Commander for about six years now and am very pleased with what I think is a nice accurate timepiece. I bought it cos I couldnt afford a Rolex/Omega/Breitling and I didnt want a TAG cos every sods got one of those. This was before I inew about other makes like IWC and Fortis.
Its overdue for a service so is losing a bit more time than it used to, though when I wore it in my last job which was pretty physical for long shifts it actually gained time.
I highly recommend the Oris commander.
Out of interest a mate of mine just bought an 'Ark Royal' watch from these folks:
www.sewills.co.uk

There not very well known I believe but my mates very pleased with what he got.
Hope this helps

The BC3 was my first auto watch. It looks good and kept time well. It just isn't very bright at night due to the tritium.

Good Evening All-

Donn, if the pricepoint of Rolex/Omega/Breitling is of concern, you'll have a heart attack when you start playing with IWC! Fortis would be better classified as a "tool watch" along with Sinn, Bell & Ross, Limes, and some Tutima models. These are all EXCELLENT watches.

For most of their models, IWC would be more accurately grouped with Jaeger LeCoultre, Audemars Piguet, Vacheron Constantin, and Patek Philippe.

Such a fascinating hobby. As always, I'll suggest a visit to TimeZone for in-depth discussion and review of this interesting topic.
