What's the word on Oris? are they good watches? i mean they're pretty expensive but are they "worth" the price? i'm a watch n00b. looking for the "sebenza of watches". you know: reliability, performance, classy, easily recognized and respected, all for a fair price. does that exist in the watch world?

So what is a fair price to you? For me it is IWC. Watches are like knives...you paid how much!!?? You are going to open a big can of worms. To me, the first time you try on the "right" watch you know right away. Just like picking up a knife the first time and knowing it has to go home with you without hesitaition.

Other lines in the Oris price range: Omega, Fortis, Sinn, Bell & Ross. The Rolex will usually hold their value during resale. Most people will not recognize the high end watch brands. To most people, Rolex is the top of the line for noticing the brand. Wear a watch you like, not for the bling factor.

Absolutely. Oris is a top brand with lots of history. Their Dive watches are stunning. Omega and Rolex are on top of my list though. I wear a Seiko and that IMHO, is the best everyday tool, reliable and rugged watch for the $$$$.

In my opinion, Oris watches, just like majority of the Swiss watches, have their movement made by ETA. Therefore its quality and stardard is already there. The only difference is the branding.

Does anyone have experience with the Artelier Chronograph? What do you think? It's a gorgeous watch.

Oris watches are an outstanding value. I love my World Timer. It is consistently -1 to 0 seconds accuracy daily. Street price: $329.

Thanks for the help guys. don't get me wrong, i'm not trying to be all metrosexual and have a bling bling watch or anything like that. i just want something that works very well and has some bling factor as well. Just like a sebbie. in knife terms i don't want a tom mayo custom or anything that nice. but i do want something that's not too expensive and works as well as a high end piece as well.
