I have been watching Chris Linton's work for over a year, and really liking what I have been seeing him come up with. I really like his blade profiles. He has been doing some really nice work in CPM154 with high grinds, nicely textured flats, and some complex handle scale configurations. I like his use of colors and the way he ties them together. I also really like his thoughts on ergonomics and handle purchase.
Back in June I talked to Chris at Blade about making me one of his edc-sized models for me, one that was classy and colorful enough to work well in an urbanized environment, with an emphasis on cutting ability in a profile that would be functional in whatever may come in city life; from opening packages over a cappuccino at a local coffee shop to food consumption at a local eatery, or any other random tasks that might come along while out wandering city streets.
A few months ago I took delivery of a very nice Warthog EDC model.
The specs:
Steel.....................1/8-inch / 3 mm CPM 154 stainless with hammer textured flats
Handle Material......Tangerine Burlap micarta and Terracotta burlap micarta bolsters over natural micarta liners with orange pin stripes.
Overall length.........7 3/8-inches / 18.5 cm
Blade length...........3 1/4-inches / 8.25 cm
I think Chris did a fantastic job with this knife. It has great symmetry, and excellent fit and finish. The color combination of the handle is very nicely done, and the colors flow well together. The grinds are very well done also.
The engraving isn't very deep on this one, but it still clearly says Osprey K/T.
As stated earlier, my intentions for this one are in the edc role, so I have put it and a small Stream Lite in an Allegheny pocket sheath from Knives-Ship-Free just for that role. It work well in multiple pockets, but my preferred carry is in the side pocket of my cargos. Combined with a small kit in a Maxped mini edc organizer, it takes care of most of my contingency needs when I am out and about.
The Warthog EDC is a great size for every day carry for me, and handles the role very well so far. I have noted that the color combination actually has a certain degree of sheeple-friendliness and isn't off-putting to the people who see me using it in random places. I have used it for opening packages, eating lunch, making snacks in the park, and even eating dinner at a few steak houses because I don't care much for the steak saws restaurants provide. Chris definitely made cutting and slicing the priority with this one, the edge is nice and thin, and it slices very well.
Very nicely done Chris!
I think we are going to have to talk about something a little bit bigger and a little more heavy duty for woods wandering
