Just found out my wife's grandnephew is either about to leave for Iraq 'til March 04, when he goes to Afghanistan. Gotta get more info.

Anyone know if the 101st would have any prohibitions against keeping a khuk handy and how big?

Don't know about khuks of course but they are not the "Aiborne" division they once were, they are an "Air Assault Division" or something like that. So basically they use choppers instead of parachutes.

Yeah, they aren't airborne way they used to be. Heck, with things in Iraq, may even spend most of time on ground now. Know one guy over there with 101st, if memory serves(Would have to dig out address), who's spending all his time now on ground helping them rebuild over there.

I'd suggest digging up a good villager though,a nd sending it with him. WOrst case, he has toditch it somewhere(unlikely),. more likely, if they don't want him to ahve it, he can just post it back to you.

Course, I'm biased towards the good little 12" villager AKs anwyyas. :)

It is a shame to lose an ABN Div. with the history of the 101st.
The CG would set policy,if any, on POW`s. Personaly Owned Weapons. We all get confused now.

Since they're an infantry unit I have a suspicion that a khuk would be allowed and welcome. Get the boy a WWII, if I had the option to take one along on a deployment that would be the one.

Hey Rusty, each unit is different on personal weapons (from when I was in) a good way to do it is like how I did that Villager I had Blessed at the Convention...send it in a care package...or give the 101st a call and ask...if they say no, send it in a care package anyways
:D
a great info site on 101st newsletters
http://www.campbell.army.mil/IDN/

weight is always and issue in personal gear along with the "where the heck am I going to carry this?" issue

send a small khuk 12" or 15" and one with a think sheath/scabbard
