Hi HOGS. The Thread on the .308 cal. rifles got me to thinking about a 8mm short, that the Germans used in WW2, or a 6mm round. Would there be a market for a rifle in one, or both, of these calibers?

Better post some Busse pics before we get tooo far OT;)

I must be asleep or something, what is an 8MM short?

Are you're talking about the .308 Win. chambered Mausers (Gibbs, spanish, etc.)?

The 8mm kurz, short, was used in the STG-44 German assault rifle. The reason behind the cartridge was that most combat fatalities are within 200 meters. This 8mm short was a intermediate round that fell between the 9mm and the 8mm Mauser.

Weak ass??
I have a H&K 93 5.56, and am completely content. I just liked the idea about an intermediate round that would fall in between the .223 and the .308.

So what is wrong with the 7.62 x 39? I actually wish my AR-15 was in that caliber. Maybe I'll get an upper for it.

who the hell cares about this weak ass round, buy a 30-30 winchester!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't want to shoot that in full-auto or even fast semi-auto. Not to mention lugging around the extra ammo while in the field, etc. But the caliber arugment has been going for decades. Me, personally, I wouldn't want to be shot with anything and I'm pretty sure the other guy feels the same way. So I'll stick with 5.56 and 7.62x51.

I just looked at pic of 7.92 x 33 ammo, 8mm short, and that looks like a serious cartridge!
My 93 is a Keeper.
Tnx!!

Cool! I finally figured out what it is (listed as 7.92x33 Kurz) and I would not even consider it when you have easy access to surplus 7.62x39 fodder.
I would also second the option of the 30/30. I think over at Chuck Hawks, he lays out the comparison between the 7.62x39 and the .30WCF.

If you don't already have a 336 or 94, it's about time to join the club:thumbup:
