OT: A giant sucking sound

And here I thought you were referring to the sound of all the kukris being sucked up in the shark tank! ;)

Nope. Sound of shark teeth coming down on khuks -- AND the fingers of the slow -- is an entirely different set of sounds.

(HD, I saved your "minigun" from the linked post. Cool!)

(And the goats are cool too. :) )

What breed are they HD?

There is just something wrong with Scott G's icon....

I thought this thread would be about my bank account. ;)
:footinmou

Lookin' good HD.

You have to admit the "lamb bar" bucket feeder is a fantastic invention! When I first used one it moved me almost to tears! I had 40+ bottle lambs to feed in addition to all of the lambs who had mothers. Buying a couple lamb bars was like finding hours in my day!

Amen! the only thing I've found that was less hassle was feeding them in one of those square manna pro feeders. However when I tried that they kept getting milk splashed up into their disbudding holes and they kept getting infected so I switched back to the lambar!

OK, HD, for us non-goat folk, what in the heck is a "disbudding hole" -- or do I want to know?

Goats are either horned or polled(non horned)

As kids the horned ones just have little horn buds. Between 3 days and a week you disbud them.

Horns on goats are dangerous. Get their heads stuck in fences. Raise up and gore the eyes out of people while they are cutting their hooves. Gore other goats.

Anyway you take an electric disbudding iron which is this copper tipped thing with a hole in it a little like a soldering iron. It glows red hot and you place restrain the kid and put the red hot iron over the horn bud and wiggle it around for 15 or 20 seconds while the kid is screaming and this huge cloud of burning skin and hair wafts up into your face. It's a lot of fun ;) That kills the horn bud.

As painful as it sounds goats actually have very few nerves there and as soon as you put them down they are playing and jumping around. More painful is tatooing their ears. Goats diss each other by ear biting and the ears are sensitive. Mine yell more when I tatoo their ears than when I disbud them.

So the little black holes you can see in their heads. That's the hole from disbudding.
