OT - Airlines - venting

I just got back home, 5 hours later than when I should have. I had a company meeting in Atlanta Wednesday and Thursday with a returning flight on Thursday at 6:20 to arrive home in time to see my kids before night time. I arrived at the gate 20 minutes prior to departure time to find out that the gate crew was calling standby passengers. I had a seat with a boarding pass. The gate crew member in charge said I was late and a no show, even though I had arrived prior to the airline's 10 minute cut-off time. Even with my persistence that I was there within the "airline's cut-off time", sorry, no seat for you. Side note, I missed the USF-Rutgers game. :thumbdn::thumbdn:

After being bumped from another flight as a "stand-by" I finally landed a seat on a plane that left one hour after that flight's the scheduled departure. Just venting here.

One good thing came out of the trip knife related though. Come to find out our Atlanta office is right behind the Cobb Galeria. How does does this come into play? I can schedule a company meeting in Atlanta for May 29, just in time for Blade!

What a bunch of knobs... :)

What airline was it? American is notorious around here... I only fly them when my boss buys the ticket! I'll drive first... well, except to London, that's difficult... :)

Glad you made it home.

That stinks!! Something similar happened to me on my last business trip. I'm crossing my fingers that my return flight home tomorrow goes smoothly. The flight in was good, so we'll see if the airline can actually do a good job 2x in a row.

It was not AA. But does have AirTranp in the name.

Well, I know it's an AMAZING hassle to fly these days, security is a joke, the service is non-existant, snacks on AA start at $3.00 for 2 candy bars (no joke, last week), the coach passengers think they're in first class, the first class passengers are treated like coach passengers were 15 years ago, and the attendants seem to hate both the passengers AND their jobs...

And worst of ALL - THEY WON'T LET ME BRING THE PRECIOUS IN MY CARRY-ON BAG! :D

(you knew I was going to post another picture of The Precious in here 'somewhere', didn't you?) :D

Seriously, glad you're back. Thanks for listening to my Airline rant... I have a airplane to catch at 0630 Monday morning...:mad::foot:

Hey now, Airtran isn't that bad(sorry I have to say that, I work for them :)) they pay my salary so I can turn around and buy more Infi..But really, sorry for the bad experience...they should not be doing that to passengers until the 10 min cutoff....They have been doing that a whole bunch lately...

You are correct, AirTran is not that bad. It was only one, gate crew member, just that one miserable person out of the entire payroll that made it a bad experience. All of the other employees attempted to do their best to accommodate me and my traveling companion. I am thankful for their attempts, but nonetheless, it only takes one individual to ruin your day.
