Well, for the last month I've been gagging down a glass of Aloe Vera juice with my metamucil. It's palatable mixed like that or mixed in grape juice, but never plain :barf: The stuff really does work. I've not had to have any stomach meds for over 2 weeks and I actually feel better eating anything. I even pushed the situation and had Italian and Mexican in the same day.....no problems. :D

So all those of you who have been commenting on stomach problems might want to at least give it a try. My friend who had dealt with ulcers since she was 8  tried it and after only drinking 1 gallon has been problem free for 2 years now. I have one more gallon to go as my dad thought I should drink his up too, and then I'll see if the problem stays away. I do hope so as the meds sometimes made me just as nauseated as the acid reflux itself.

Just a thought to get your weekend off to a good start. :D

No thanks. Basically, if your body is gagging....well, it's a succulent, right? A cactus?

you only gag when you try it plain. :barf: Mixed with grape juice is not bad at all. And it really does help. :D and yes it is a cactus. I'm trying to grow one. We'll see what happens.

The aloe vera juice is good for healing flesh wounds too. I usualy cut a piece of the thick leaf, cut off the thorns, split it in half to reveal the inside of the leaf an aply it on wound with some bandage. Makes the healing quicker and prevents sepsis.

It can be easily grown. Just put a piece of it in some water and wait until it makes some roots, then plant it in regular soil. It is succulent, not cactus

Aloe is great stuff.
I am fair skinned and get sunburned easily
Quite often you can catch me around the house with a split leaf resting
on my forehead to ease the pain.
Cut a leaf and slap it on any burn as a matter of fact
Pretty easy to grow too
Or it must be my wife cant kill it in less than a year
Thanks for the tip about internal use I have seen it available in
health food stores and wondered what it was for.

Very good on burns and sunburn. I keep several plants growing at my house.

They go outside in summer but are inside in winter. A freeze will kill them.

What's wrong with eating a cactus?

I lived in Arizona as a child and have fond memories of "harvesting" cactus innards to make jam, jelly and syrup.

I'd probably knock people over at the grocery store here if I even had the slightest thought that they might have some in stock. :footinmou :o

That, and choke-cherry........wow....

It used to be called "kitchen plant' because if used immediately after a burn, the juice usually prevented serious blisters from forming, as I recall. Good luck with the stomach problem.

Here is a recipe I got from a Chinese cooking magazine you might be interested:

AloeA.jpg

Lotus seeds & Aloe
Preparation time: 10 min
Cooking time: 40 min

Ingredient: lotus seeds 100g
Aloe 100g
Broccolli 1/2
Salt 5g
White pepper powder 1/3 teaspoon
Starch 30ml
Water 600ml
Process:
1. Take off the bitter cord from lotus seeds, clean seeds with water. Clean aloe, peel off the skin, cut it into 1x4 cm pieces, then put these pieces into a bowel with water. Wash the broccolli, and then chop it into small pieces.
2. Boil water in a pot with big fire, put seeds into boiling water, then change the fire to “small”, cook the seeds for 35 min
3. Put the broccolli and aloe into the pot, continue to cook for another 3 min with “small” fire
4. Put salt and white pepper powder, then starch, turn the fire to big, turn off the fire until the soup is boiling.
120 kcal/person

Aloe can adjust the immune system; it’s good for some chronic diseases. Also it can prevent rough skin and aging skin; lotus seeds have the function of relieving uneasiness of body and mind.

Do you want to try this dish???

Hi Guys
I'm also a believer, the juice helps with most digestive and stomach problems. The juice is made from the inner part of the plant while the outer leaves provide the gels etc for burns and the like. Appearantly the juice from the outer leaves is a very potent bowel loosener and should not be consumed.

Red Flower the picture you have linked makes it look like a very tasty dish but I'm not so sure how it would set with American palates.
I would certainly taste it if it were available but to actually make it not being experienced with the taste of lotus seeds and aloe might be a waste of money, and food, for many of us.
Barbie and I love Chinese food and we used to have a favorite restaurant owned by a Chinese family that made and served authentic Chinese food.
Mr Li had many health issues and had to quit cooking for the public.
Barbie and me were very sorry the Li's had to close their restaraunt because of Mr Li's health problems.:(
They were very wonderful people.:)
We haven't found a Chinese restaurant yet that serves food that is even nearly as good as what the Li's made and served.
Mrs Li's hot and sour soup was wonderful, both hot with heat -and- peppers and wonderfully sour. She said her secret was using black vinegar.
I have found a couple of places that makes soup close to hers but still not nearly as good.:(

I continue to be amazed by Red Flower's culinary abilities. (And the kids, whom she hopelessly spoiled, continue to bemoan their father's cooking while she is gone.)

She grew up in Beijing and I think good cooking is in her genes. Beijing may be the culinary capital of the world. The restaurants there are incredible, both in their quality and their variety.

It seems the Chinese have a recipie for just about anything you can think of. Incredibly, they seem to make it all taste good too.

I wish I could go "Arizona get together on 4/30", so we could try this dish together. :)

Thank you for the compliment on my cooking, Howard.
