Looks like the Schrade factory clearance is getting down to the bottom of the barrel. There have been lots of OT and UH knife parts selling recently on eBay, in addition to mounds of unfinished blades. One lot actually looks like stuff from the junk bin. :barf:

A recently ended auction:

I bid on these and a couple of other sets of handle slabs, but was outbid on every sale. I'm shocked someone else wanted them.

Yep, we saw blanks being finished and sold on eBay this year too. Makes one wonder what else is on those pallets and bins.

in looking at the photos i am moved to ask a question. why are the outside pins in place? was this common practice to have them already there? and the end caps also. this was one step where all you needed to do was install the center pin?

These knife components were for Swinden Key construction knives. If you examine such a knife with a magnifying glass and a bright light, you can likely see the details of how it is put together. There were three main subassemblies of these knives. Eric likely knows if they had official names but they consisted of a left, right and center section. The outside had the bolsters and scale attached to an outer liner. The center had the springs and blades attached to the center liner. Here is a scan of an 897UH disassembled. When the center pin is cut, the two outers can be rotated out of their keyholes.

Here is a copy of the patent which shows it more clearly.
