Talk about an unexpected gift from an old friend. A retired First Sgt buddy of mine called me up and asked if I still do any wood carving. Seems he had a couple of sets of old carving tools that his dad had bought before he was born. As it turned out his dad never used them and my buddy had no interest in wood carving. He said if I wanted 'em to come and get 'em. I got there as quick as I could.
Turned out they were two complete sets, made by the Millers Falls Company of Greenfield, Massachusetts back in the late forties, early fifties. They had a little light surface rust on the forged blades, but other than that were in totally unused condition. Here's a pic from a 1949 edition Saturday Evening Post, if you look close you'll see the "Carving Tool Set No. 107". I have both the set no. 106 and the set no. 107. Sweeeeeeeeeeeet.
