In Thai leopard would be pronounced sue-a taw, with a rising tone on the sue.

How about "Holy crap I thought she was domesticated"

My Nepali is very bad, so I really should wait for the experts to chime in--but it seems to me that the word "Hyu" or "Chitwa" (or perhaps each/both) refer to either the common panther or the snow leopard...

I think that the Hindi animal names are often used in Nepal. It seems like that Hindi word for panther is "chita," but it would make much more sense if that was a cheetah...

When I was younger I always thought the jungle book names where all Hindi animal names (which Sher and Baloo are), but when I tried to use "bagheera" for panther in Hindi everyone laughed and said "chita." Now, I give people plenty of reasons to laugh at me...so I could be completely mistaken here!

Oh, while the Hindi experts are correcting me...what does "Tenda" or "Tendua" mean? Is that panther related??

What is it about the internet that makes me commit dumb conjecture to writing? I already regret posting in this thread...

Oh Bizmark, Bizmark, Bizmark.....

You haven't even scratched the surface of "dumb conjecture."

Obviously, you need a LOT more life experience at doing "dumb" because I DO dumb, and at the award ceremony granting me my Masters of Dumb, you might not have been allowed in the hall.

I remember the Presentation speech like it was yesterday:

"Here."

Thanks for the input folks, we decided to name the little critter Tenzin after a leopard cat in Australia.

It was fun right up until then

yes, in hindi, tendua/tendu is a leopard or panther species (Felis leopardus).

Wow....nice to hear from ya, Ben......all well?

Alf - please keep me updated on the Bengal critter.....

I have plans on picking one up in the not-too-distant future.

Dan, my stepmother just got into breeding them. She really loves them. But then again, she loves everything because "D'ey are just so cwute and fwuffy, and mommy just wuvs dem to pieces." Dad married her during a mid-life crisis. i think he has had second thoughts since then. She's nine years older than me and i'm 23;) Anyhoo, they really are cool to watch. They look like big cats that were put in the drier on high and forgotten about. Solid muscle. I'm about 5'11" and was playing with one. He jumped straight up in the air with no running start and i swear he was looking me in the eye. Nimble, nimble, nimble! One was out in the pole barn and decided to take a strole along the over-head door tract. Just slinked along until it got to the end. Then turned around and came back. no sweat. Keep in mind that this tract couldn't be more than 2" across. The turning around part bothered it about as much as being 30' off the ground with nothing but concrete to catch it. They said i could have one, but i want to make sure it won't eat my ferret. he was here first. Save your pennies. Those cats cost a fortune!

Yeah....I'm terribly jealous of Alf - having inherited one. That's definitely the way to go.

If I get into it, I will do some breeding - I don't have any delusions of turning a profit off it....just gives me a better excuse for wanting/having one.....two.....several.....:D

Love big cats.....

Almost got a Maine Coon once...hopefully I'll get another chance....just gotta work on the "playpen" idea....;)

My wife and kids decided to give the cat a Sherpa name- Ta-shee. I like Tenzin, but got overuled :(

We adopted her from a local cat shelter that my wife volunteers at. A breeder was evicted from his apt and had to give up about 15 bengals. They were all neutered by the shelter.

The cat is great with my 2 boys (4&6), gets along OK with our other cat, but has not met our dobie yet  Loves playing in and with water and is very affectionate. It looks super cool, the coat is a copper coloured base that glisten in the light, kinda like red/copper coloured horses.

Best thing is it hardly sheds. Pinch her coat and you will maybe get a hair or 2 off.
