Great pic Howard! I understand that there actually is some resistance in the rural areas to China's kind of turning it's back on it's communistic system. They've kinda moved from Communisim to Fascisim it seems
The picture was taken on a movie set. Chinese people get a chuckle when they see it as I have the classic posture down, Mao's book over the heart. Many of them remember those days.
China is undergoing a unique evolution. The freeing up of the markets and the advent of the computer age, easy electronic communication, and information access have made big changes in their society, primarily for the better. I am highly optimistic about their future progress. They learned some solid lessons from the mistakes of the past.
Of course, there are Chinese people of all different opinions, just as you can find all sorts here in America. Some might long for the "good old days" but I think they are a small minority.
As far as a move towards fascism, I believe that they are moving away from that rather than towards it. There may be a ways to go yet though.
North Korea is very poor. China has a big problem with refugees from N. Korea crashing the gates at various embasies. Perhaps when enough North Koreans see the economic successes of their giant neighbor, and are able to access electronic media, N. Korea will experience some changes too.
