I posted this question in another thread, but I thought folks might not see it there.
So that's the question. Have you owned an Audi A4 (or other model, but I'm most interested in that one) and if so what was your experience--with both car and dealer. AND if you live in Maine, did you deal with Morong Falmouth?

THANK YOU!!!!!

I don't have one personally, but three of my partners have, or had, Audis. (two A4s and an older S4 I think). They all liked them. One traded his for a BMW and said the BMW was a much better performer, but he got a 540, so it was a step up. The other guy got a truck and a Honda S2000.

None of them really think the Audis are "performance" cars. I never heard any reliablity problems.

The guy that has his now has 100K on it and it still runs and looks new.

Don't know anything about them Uwinv. We've decided we're going with the Camry 4 cyl with a 4 speed auto. That combo has been around since forever, gets around 34 mpg hiway and is good for 300,000 miles. Reality set in when I happened to stop and think that in just 5 short years Barbie and I will both be 70 and may need something easier to get in and out of than a 2 dr coupe where yer arse is draggin the ground.:grumpy: ;) :D :(

Edit:
Still gettin the SE Sport with sport tuned suspension, a sunroof, spoiler, 16" 5 spoke aluminum wheels, carbon fiber trim, blacked out headlight reflecors and other goodies so it won't be everyone's same ol Camry.:p :D ;)
It's a bit peppier than the 150 horse Dodge Stratus we're driving now so we won't be losing anything anyway.:)
I still like that Nissan SE-R though and always will but it's just not practical fer us older folks on a fixed income, dammit!:grumpy: ;)

Another obvious thing about the Audis is that you will have a much higher maintenance and parts bill. We had to have the A6's brakes pretty much replaced and that ending up costing us a cool 800 bucks. Also any work that has to be done via a computer is going to have to be done at a dealer or someplace that handles these kinds of cars. Where as GM and Ford and the like have more general computer cards to diagnose problems with the car, Audi makes a specific card that goes with a specific model on a specific year. These cards usually run mechanics about 1000 bucks a card. Thats one of the reasons the cost to fix these things are so high. In other words, Cooter down the street that'll do anything for a buck can't fix an audi. That shouldn't matter for a while though. You'll be under warantee. Really, for as hard as my girl drives that Audi, the only thing brakewise that has been replaced is the pads up until just a month ago. I'll still stick by them. i just won't buy another until i can afford it;)

A8L. Great car. When it works. I had a transmission fail, and a cooling system fail. I really don't expect to drive 200 miles with my family in the summer with the heater on to keep the engine from blowing.
Having said that, it may not drive like a BMW, but it's a great 4wd car. I was thinking of the W12 next. And then I remembered the delivery problems I had when I ordered an A4. To hell with Audi.

Thanks! :) I've been on a number of car review sites and I've found that every brand has trouble on some level. But that is a good point about repairs on the Audi being more $$.

HJK: Sorry to hear about your car troubles! I did read stories like that from Toyota owners (my whole family owns them, myself included--and we've never had any major troubles) and Honda etc..so who knows?

NICE!! :) That's the only criticism I have of the regular Camry's i've seen: they just didn't look very sporty. But I don't believe I've ever seen the SE sport, and not decked out like that! I imagine that'll look great.

Yep, my dad had that same realization on his last car purchase. he's quite a bit older than you too. He was looking at Audi TTs, Nissan 350z, Porsche 911 (until he saw the price tag  )etc... 3/4 life crisis? :D He ended up going with a Toyota Land Cruiser which is an AWESOME vehicle.

we own a 02 Audi A4 3.0 quattro love the car and shifting from the steering wheel is cool, awd is great in the corners when I get to drive it but have yet to try driving it in the snow...I think it needs more power but wife is fine with it (my daily driver is a 315hp BMW) ...problems, fuel sending unit replaced and drivers side tweater speaker replaced...maintenance free for 4 years...would we buy another? yep the S4

I have always admired the Audi S8 and now the RS6, but I've been a Mustang driver for nigh on 15 years now. I'm not much for smooth comforts yet, when I am I will probably go with an S-model Audi that's gotten 3 years of good repair ratings (if they ever make such a beast).

Hi All-

Owned a 2002 Audi A4 with Quattro and 1.8-liter turbocharged powerplant. Disliked that car because of the automatic transmission, but the other person in the relationship at that time couldn't drive standard. The car was way too peaky with that transmission and turbo. My preference is for manual or manumatic with a normally-aspirated engine. Newest vehicle is an Audi A3 3.2 S-Line with a bunch of upgrades...which is a much nicer vehicle. No real maintenance problems with any of 'em.
