Does anyone here have any experience with the Beretta 92 or the Para Warthog? I'm not saying I'm getting a 9mm or 45 but both of these guns have sparked my intrest. I'm asking about these particular guns so please dont start suggesting glocks, etc. I have little expereince with semi autos. The only sem auto pistol I currently own is a Sig 22lr mosquito. I've always been a revolver person and own a few but considering getting a semi auto. As far as the purpose of this gun it would be just to have. My home guns are a Ruger Gp100 .357 and a Ruger Sp101 .357. Thanks in advance for your help.

hi i've used a beretta 92 quite a bit, its a good dependable gun with resonable accuracy. eventually you can have slide issues with it, but in normal use it will work like a swiss watch.

the para guns are good the warthog is a very differnt gun from the beretta. the beretta is a full size service pistol while the warthog is compact sort of. the grip on the warthog is very thick. depending on the size of your hands the beretta may be much more comfortable for you. you might look at a service sized 1911 in comparison to the para the grip thickness will surprise you.

if its for concealed carry i wouldn't recommend either one, they both leave too big an imprint to conceal easily. for plinking or home defense both will work well. i'd give the edge to the beretta simply for the longer sight radius. also keep in mind 9mm is a ton cheaper to plink with.

Thanks for the replies. I actually held a warthog last night for the first time. The grips on it were alot thicker than I expected but not bad. I know that comparing the 45 to a 9 is apples to oranges and could easily start the old time caliber war. I was just curious about the actual guns. No conceal carry here ( Illinois still sucks for that). Just thinking of adding a semiauto to the collection. I've always admired the Sigs but for the price difference thought the Berreta would be a better buy and easier to order around these parts. Cricketdave , what kind of slide issues should one expect? As far as Glock goes I know they come highly recommended by many. I just really like a hammer on my gun.

New Sigs vs. the older West German Sigs seem to be much more hit and miss in the QC department. Same with many factory 1911s. The 1911 is the greatest combat handgun of all time but lots of parts means at least moderate fitting and finishing is required in the factory and this is where a lot of QC is missed.

Dont worry about slide issues on the Beretta, that came about from a locking block issue found in some early military contract guns that ended ages ago

Thanks. Gives me something to chew on. I'm leaning toward the Berreta in the near future. But until then I keep my .357s handy.

I own a few 92 and love them. I had been kicking around the idea of adding a Warthog to my collection for a CCW gun but can't seem to find any around where I live. If I find one I will buy it if it has a good price. Again....range gun the 92 is a must have.....personal defense gun the warthog would be a great addition to your firearms family as well.

Well wife is out of town today and I'm babysitting the kids and being on here may just cause me to place an order. The more I read on the 92 the more I'm starting to want one. Which I didnt realize that the made the 92 with 17,15,or 10 capicity. I had only seen the 10 and 15 until looking online.

I have the beretta. I had one in the past, traded it off...kicked myself HARD and got another one. Unless I am in dire need, I will never get rid of it. I have a commercial M9 which is pretty much the same as the 92 except for minor frame differences and sights.

The new M9A1 looks promising. rail under barrel, magwell beveling, checkering front and back of the grip...I would get one if I had the coin to get another one.

I have some time with the 92 also and found it to be relatively accurate and reliable. It's also a beast of a gun for a 9 and about as large as a small boat anchor. There are so many other full sized, 9mm's that are worth looking at including the Springfield XD series, any metal frame Sig and the Smith M&P's with a little trigger work.
I might, might even look at the Ruger semi's over the Beretta's just based on overall size, but I'd look very closely at (and shoot) them before taking one home.
I don't know much about the Warthog, but have not seen others have much luck with any of the compact .45 1911's. If you are looking at a 1911 style gun, find one that's full size.

For some reason I just shoot better with my Beretta 92 than any of my other fine pistols. And it holds lots of bullets. For those reasons, I really like the 92.

I could be wrong Rich but I think the Springfield Xd are all striker fire. I'm not wanting a striker fire pistol. Nothing wrong with them, I just dont want one.As far as size of a Berretta I'm not overly concern, since it wont be CCW.

I'd got with the 92 as well ...the wart hog has had a bunch of jamming issues..I researched it when I was looking into buying one

"I think the Springfield Xd are all striker fire. I'm not wanting a striker fire pistol."
I gotcha on this, I was just tossing out some other brands off the top of my head. Are you wanting to replicate the trigger function of your revolvers?

Doesnt really matter. Just wanting to add a semi to the mix. I do know the Sig 229 DAK replicates the trigger action of a Da revolver pretty much. Held one a few years ago but didnt have the funds at the time.

92, hands down. I can't think it one thing the Warthog does better except conceal a little better and I wouldn't ever carry a Warthog.
