Can anyone recommend good median priced weather proof field grade binoculars? I'm looking for ones that I can throw in the truck or the pack, they don't have to be compact just sturdy.

Thanks
John

steiner military marine 8x32. not the greatest optics, but most wont know the difference. very tough and reasonably priced.

There is a two or three page thread on W&S right now on bino's that you could get a lot of folks opinions on. I am a Steiner fan myself.

Also Leupold Wind River, About $250 To 290 At Wally World, I Have Brunton Epoch- 10x42, Leica 10x42,and 12x50, And The Roof Prism Wind River Have Rolled Around In My Floorboard Been Carried By A 8 And 12 Year Old Nephew And Are Still Good Glass For The Money

Brunton Epoch off of ebay
They aren't Ziess but they are very nice.
Warranty states something about running over them with a truck or an Elephant or something like that...
Warrantied for life reguardless...I got mine for $300 bucks

Steiners here...the sport auto focus rocks! Mine are military marine model. Gotta love a binoc that can take a beating, dropping, or submersion:thumbup:

I am very partial to Leitz/Leica. But for those like me, with a tight budget in mind, I think the Bushnell Legend line are great beater binocs.

I've got a pair of Bushnell H2O 10x25's (waterproof) in rubberized camo, that outperform my $600 Nikons, best of all they only cost me $50 so I don't have to worry if they get trashed !

swarovski, zeiss, and leica, are all truly amazing optics. with these you would never need another pair of binocs, ever. but they are very expensive.

the steiners can be had for under 200.00.

Austrian made Swarovski is one of the best... but you pay for it
I would amend this to say "Swarosvskil is THE best... but you pay for it." They can't be beat for optics but anything Swarovski is expensive with a capital $.

I have a 7x35 Steiner and an 8x42 Leica. The superior optics of the Leica make it the one I carry always for football games and almost always for hunting. The Steiner gets to go only when he conditions are going to be extreme.

FWIW though, I have had to call on the Steiner warranty and service and found it to be Busse-like. Long before I had the Leica, I found my old Steiner to be fogged internally, one week before deer season opened. I called Steiner on a Monday, got instructions for returning, and mentioned my need for fast turnaround because of hunting season. A brand new binoc showed up in the mail on Thursday of the same week!

I have 10x32 Leica's. Wish I would have gone for the 8x32s. I do have a pair of Bushnell's that I bring Kayaking usually. You definitely get what you pay for though in optics....buy as much as you can afford and give it to the kids after your gone.
