Off topic, but I need to ask this before the upcoming Ganza.

I can't sit in a PC chair long and use a Laptop while in my back chair.
It has been storming every night for the past week or so. Every time it rains hard I loose connection with the Router:confused:

I have a Linksys 2.4GHz G Router, model WRT54G
Is this a problem with most routers? Or do I just need a better Router?

Been in a drought for over a year so I havn't had much problem untill latley.

If it storms ganza night I'm in trouble!
Thanks, Kenny

Does your power flicker during the storm?

I have the same router and it's always worked fine for me.
Maybe try to reset it to factory defaults and start from scratch.

I'm running the same router. my issues aren't loosing the link, it's been the reconnect coming out of standby/sleep on the laptop (Vista).

You might try a surge suppressor or UPS (uninterpretable power supply, not a big brown truck). If the router's getting glitches it'll help.

If its the RF from the lightening is screwing up the radio link, pray for good weather, or run a hardline.

For ganza time I usually run a 50' hardline (Ethernet cable) and run the laptop off that. I gives me the full 100mbit vs the 54mbit I get over the WAN. I also disable the virus scan for email, its a time Hog ;) when milliseconds count.

This is all premised on you not going after any knives I want, so the safest thing to do ( for me ) is for you to shut off your laptop if the weather is threatening, there's always the next ganza

And here I thought I was the only one that took all these extra little steps.

For the past week, I've lost connectivity at home every night. Earthlink is sending a new modem after an ordeal with customer service. I may have to go to the office Saturday night. Those lines are fast though. Really fast.

My two cents

- You should always use a UPS, for all PC related equipment that does not have its own battery power (like your modem, router, PC)
- Buy a new router somewhere you can return it within 30 days and try it, it will help eliminate the environment as the cause of the problem and focus your troubleshooting. I recommend the MAC Apple Extreme.
- If at all possible have a ethernet (Network) cable ready, you never know when/if the problem will resurface.
- All else fails connect your PC directly to your DSL or Cable Modem, skip the router all together during the 1 hour the Ganzaa will be on.

Did you recently update your internet connection software?

I have an inline power conditioner for my house, no power surges here!

Thanks all for the info!
I know nothing about PC's, so I really appreciate it:thumbup:

Hit it with a sludge hammer. I can personally guarantee that you won't be posting any more in this thread about the problem

Then again, you won't be posting at all cause you just smashed it LOL :-D

Are you on an ADSL connection? (High speed through your phone line).

If so, does your modem itself lose the connection when it rains? I have seen situations where there is a break in the phone line and water gets in. Doesn't always kill the voice service, but causes enough interference to kill the adsl signal.

Yes, with ATT.

No, the modem does not loose its connection often. My laptop on the otherhand does every time its stormy a few miles away. Always lightning with the rain this time of year so the lightning may be the culprit:confused:

I did call Bellsouth..well ATT.. and they said to call back when it was doing it, may of just been wanting to get me off the phone???

I may just need to find a 50' piece of the ethernet cable like some suggested.

Perhaps check for firmware updates for your router and driver updated for your laptop's wireless card. You could also try a different wireless channel on the router. Maybe a slightly different frequency will help

Ken44,

I have to agree with what the other people have said. I've owned several Linksys wireless products and have found them to be very reliable. My father had a lot of trouble with his wireless connection on his laptop. His problem eventually was traced back to the Operating system. What system are you using? Ie Windoes 2000, XP home/Pro, Vista, etc.... Have you made any major software and/or equipment changes recently or has the problem been there since day one?
I would suggest switching to a diferent channel. Are you using encryption or running an open link? Any houses near you that could be causing interference?

you might need a iPhone when you are going for a BATHROOM DUTY.

:D

Funny Wu! I dought I could even learn how to use most thats on that phone.

I know you had to be in that line the first day...knowing you, you might of even found a way to get one early

Ponder this Wu, an iPhone in satin/snake!
