I have been trying to help my dad track down two friends that he served with in Korea with no luck. The problem is he only knew them by their last names. I have all my dad's info so if anyone knows of an army website or office where he could get last known addresses for these men that would mean more to him(and me) than you can imagine. Even if he finds out they have passed, I think he would feel better knowing.

Many thanks in advance for any advice or help. Please feel free to email me if you are a non-posting lurker:), or even if you're not:D

Well this one Yahoo! group I referred to on the 'Mike's old khuk' thread: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/britregiments/ has some information about how to go about tracking down people who have served in the [British] Army. If he served in the USA army, I don't know, but you might try searching Yahoo! clubs & Yahoo! groups for an American equivalent. Or maybe someone else has a better idea...

cheers, B.

Thanks Ben:)

My dad served in the U.S. Army in Korea, but I'll try the Yahoo idea.

:)

I wouldn't know where to start. I recently made contact with an old shipmate from the Warrington (Korean War era) but this was a karmic event -- sold a knife to a nephew here on the forum who tracked the guy down and hooked us up after almost 50 years.

I know the British Army Yahoo! site essentially has information about how to contact the correct records offices....I imagine it should work the same in the U.S.--there should be some US Army records office from which one can request information. No idea of where to start though--I think that's what to find out 1st.

Pity your father doesn't know both their names (I mean Christian/first & surname)--or one could just try a sort of hit-&-miss approach. I know I've received a least one call asking if I was the same person who someone had served in Korea with (BTW I'm not, a bit young ;)).

good luck, B.

Rob,

My old girlfriend is heading up a study of S.D. Fallen Veterans from WWII. While hanging out with her, I picked up some places to search... but you'd need to know what state they lived in.

Once you know that, check with the VFW, the govenor's office, and any state veterans affairs records that have documented the Korean Vets. Not knowing the full name will be a little speed bump to navigate, but once you locate the records, there probably won't be too many of them to sift through (unless of course the names are Smith, Jones, or Johannsen ... in Minnesota that is)...

BTW... I owe you an e-mail :) . I'll get it out on the 1st (I've been working too much lately).

Good luck,

Alan

The website www.Classmates.com has a section for military service as well as high school time. Just put in what branch, time, and duty station and it will show a list of all the others who have entered their information on that site. I recently had an old shipmate send an email to me from that website so I know that it can work.
Also the American Legion also has a section in their magazine LEGION that lists persons searching for old friends.

Try vetfriends.com

Thanks Servtech! I'll do that:)

That's a problem too. I don't think he knows for sure what state they were from--its been awhile. But thanks anyway!
