Question for you Hogs that are cigar smokers. Just curious as to what you guys (or gals) are using for humidors. I have a nice inlaid Diamond Crown humidor, but as pretty as it is, it doesn't seem to hold a constant humidity well. The DC humidifier that I got with it has failed me already (leaked all over some really nice cigars  ) so I'm in the market for something new. I'm waiting to hear back from Daniel Marshall humidors (always heard great things about them), and unfortunately for me, Eli Bleu is waaaaaay too expensive for me right now. I'm wondering what some of you guys are using, and your experiences. I appreciate any thoughts. This piglet needs a new humidor, and I want to make sure my $$ goes to a good cause. (Is Jerry making an INFI-Dor yet??!! ) :p

The Boss Hog and I are using these. It serves as my primary and Jerry uses his as a travel humidor, but I am sure he has a nice walk in humidor at home. :D

Cool, thanks PG! That's something I don't have yet. What do you use to keep the humidity up?

Well, they stay pretty moist on their own, but Jerry gave me some humidty packs at Blade this year. I haven't opened the can in a few months, so I might have to get one out and smoke it soon to see how they are. :D The packets are a jell of some kind.

Nice! I know just what you're talking about. I have some jell tubes that I use sometimes in my leather travel cases.

So where exactly did you say you got your INFI-dor? :D

When will the humidors be available at BCS?

Hey fellas,
I haven't been arund in a while due to some really screwed up happenings in my life (all is OK now, though).
If you need a really good humi, call Bob Staebel at Aristocrat Humidors. It is what I have my cigars in. I have a stock of 2-3000 sticks at any given time, and take their care quite seriously. Bob is a true craftsman, and I cougt one of his larger cabinets with electronic temperature and humidity control. The wait is pretty long (more than TWO WEEKS!) but the product is absolutely outstanding.

Thanks for the heads up Smokelaw. I just checked out his site, and he's got some really nice stuff!

One of the tricks for making a good humidor is lining it with Spanish cedar. That wood takes up moisture slowly, and releases it slowly. It’s the best material to help keep the tobacco in good condition. Could you get some thin sheets of Spanish cedar and line your existing box with them?

Be sure to get Cigar Oasis XL Plus electronic humidifier. I've been using one for over a year in a cabinet sized humidor (holds about 40 boxes) and couldn't be happier! You fill it with distilled water, set the humidity level with a digital display, and sit back. I check mine about once a month. Costs about $108, but absolutely worth every penny.

For those that are somewhat following this thread, this is the humidor I decided on. I've heard nothing but great reviews, and I was in contact with one of their sales consultants that helped me out a bunch. I also added some features like a digital hygrometer and metal date code strip.

Very nice humidor! I think the Busse Combat model MIGHT work down here in AZ...it is really tough keeping smokes in good condition here. So far, a cedar-lined humidor and gel humidity packs seem to work the best. Good luck!!:D

I can imagine it would be a little more difficult. Doesn't AZ have pretty low humidity on average?

I have a Diamond Crown humidor with Diamond Crown humidification device. I have not had any problems with the humidification device, other than letting it dry out.

As a continuation, you must properly "condition" your humidor by moistening the cedar lining for 24 hours prior to placing the sticks in there. There are several websites and even a weekly broadcast www.cigardave.com that has invaluable information about cigars and humidors.

Good luck.

BTW, do you have any FFOXs that you need to get rid of? LOL

Well, in the summertime, we've had less relative humidity than dried lumber, for what that's worth. Tough on the stogies, especially when you're just a part-time smoker. The local smoke shops don't do half a good job keeping singles moist, so I buy what I like one kind at a time!:D

I've had this particular humidor for a while, and it's always been kinda finicky. The humidification device worked ok, but it leaked pretty bad one time and ruined some good cigars. Since then, I've never really trusted it. I guess Diamond Crown knew of a particular problem people were having and redesigned the unit. The humidor itself is quite eye catching. Maybe I just got unlucky with this particular one. Reed and Barton have an excellent reputation, so this by no means represents their quality. Just my misfortune. I've been wanting another humidor anyway. :D

I'll definately check out that link you posted too, thanks!

Oh, and yes I have some Opus's but I feel no need to get rid of them.....

....well maybe one right now ;)

MD13 I'm a noob to cigars, but the humidifier I use is the Xikar jars.It won't leak on your cigars. The only drawback is it takes up a little space.
