First off, howdy every one. Been in hiding for last 2 months since I started a new job and don't get to visit the cantina much anymore. Since we all got an opinion, and I respect most of yours, here goes~ The frau has given me the green light to buy a new bangenschuster (otherwise known as a rifle :) ) and I was looking at the CZ 452 American and Lux models. Do any of you have one? What is your opinion of them? The Luxs stock seems to have a lot of drop to it ~ how does it do when scoped? Thanks !

Stevo

don't like lots of drop in the stock if the cartridge is big

haven't handled any nor seen one but from reviews those rifles appear to be fine tools.

They appear to be fine weapons. The fit and finish are great, and so far the weapons are holding up well. I would own either model.

Looks like Spectre (John) is the only one who has shot one. I went through most of the links, and the rifles seem to be very well made. Over and over, the quality of the workmanship is noted.

On AuctionArms, the prices were $325 or more. Some of the reviews mentioned prices as low as $250, but...those may be old prices.

I like old guns, so...it wouldn't be for me. The '50's Springfield 84C does fairly well. But no scope mount (as yet, I'm working on it.)

The tapered barrell is an indicator of the attention to detail. One reviewer complained that all the identifier markings took away from the beauty of the finish on the metal! I get lost with the one-in-fourteen, one-in-fifteen rifling detail. These folks must be trying to use the same hole in the target with multiple shots.

I hope you are happy with it. Based on what I saw, shopping around might be a good idea, and maybe working out a deal for a scoped rig with the dealer.

Give us a report, eh? (On the other hand, you could look around for an old .22 and make it WONDERFUL for that kind of money. ;) )

I managed to get this CZ 550 action for a custom rifle project. Fit and finish is nice IMO. Can't wait til it's finished.

Thanks for the replies one and all! I finally found a dealer that has one in stock over in Modesto. Price is pretty reasonable at $329, I have been quoted prices as high as $389. The cheapest I have found wholesale on the internet is $284, so once I add a $25 FFL fee and $10 shipping I could just buy it from the dealer. I did happen to find a used Savage/Anshutz 164 at a different dealer w/2 xtra mags for $395 in fine shape ~ best I can tell Savage stopped importing them in '81 (same model as the Anschutz 1416). Now I am torn. To make matters worse I found out they make a plain version of the 452 w/beech stock ~ still has the adjustable trigger. I think I could get one for about $250. Looked at new Savages and Marlins but they looked clunky and there was too much plastic, don't think the triggers are adjustable either.

I will keep you all posted! :)

Just out of idle curiousity, is that gunshop Argonaut, by any chance Stevo?

edit:
Over on McHenry...

I picked up the 452 American with Beech stock for $185 a year ago and it is the best shooting and highest quality .22 I have ever owned. Fully adjustable
rear sights.

consider looking around here:
http://p201.ezboard.com/fczechpistols82792frm47

and posting a request for best prices for a CZ452.

The Lux is so pretty that I'm afraid I would relegate it to cabin gun status but the beech is a field shooter.

There is also a long barreled version of the 452 that a friend swears by as the perfect squirrel gun.

Loaded with Aguilla .22 sniper subsonics from (AIMSURPLUS) or CCI hollow point shorts, you have a very -very quiet round capable of a wide range of varmit hunting.

Stevo,
There's one for sale on usualsuspects.net for $200

Look HERE

It's in Virginia. Kind of far away, but looks like the price is good.

Wow, this got even more activity than I had hoped for. Rusty, the shop is I believe Modesto Gun (real imaginitive, eh?). They are owned by the same folks that own the Stockton Gun Exchange. But, they are indeed on McHenry. Perhaps they took it over?

I haven't had a chance to chase the links that all you guys have posted. I'm going to do it right now!

607 McHenry, (209) 527-3006.

Sure sounds like the right place.

BTW, if the Savage /Anshutz is in good condition, gab it while you can. There will be more CZs down the road. Not so with the S/A at that price.

Just my opinion.
