OT: Dan? Hollowdweller? Norlund double-bit axe.

Sweet little axe, but it is a 10 day auction with a lot still to go. What makes you think it won't go any higher than $28?

Latticino?

I was teasing. They show up about once or twice a year on eBay and go for $100 or more at times. With the belt sheath, could go even higher.

Actually the Lee Reeves Nessmuk is a better user, but old Norlunds have become the stuff dreams are made of.

I'd like to get it, thanks for bringin' it up, but almost all I have seen have closed in the near $200 realm, and the Lee Reeves is cheaper than that.

I bet this hits triple digits before week's end. :(

Sure is a sweetie...thanks for the link, Kis. I knew you was kiddin'....:D :p

I've pretty much given up on a Norlund. Too much collector's value.

On a related note, I've checked Ragnar's site for the status on his Nessmuks on a nearly daily basis for several months now. I'm patient. I'll have a double-bit (and possibly a few additional scars on my head) eventually.

Satori when they do come in I would very much appreciate a heads up. ;)
Are they going to be in the 6150 or another alloy, or do you know yet?

Can do, Yvsa. The last time that I corresponded with Ragnar (and this was a while ago) he'd mentioned that he was waiting on the foundry to do a pour. He didn't mention anything about changing the metal so I'm guessing that he'll still be offering 6150 and 410 versions.

I want that Nessmuk so badly that I've been half tempted to buy the 410 one...then I snap out of it, and remember why I like differentially hardened carbon steel so much.

(If you guys ever catch me buying a stainless double-bit axe, please remind me of what I'm doing so that I can kick my own @ss.)

Awww, cmon, S, let us do it. We'll be careful of the mask. And the gopher.

I had both the 410 and the 6150. Initially the 410 kicked the 6150's ass because apparently the 410's come from the factory tempered and Ragnar apparently didn't get the 6150 tempered right. When I lit into an oak 2x4 the edges flattened out. I sent it back to Ragnar and he sent me a replacement.

But seriously I tested both models out and they pretty much looked and cut the same and the edge retention on the properly hardened 6150 and the 410 were identical based on the stuff I did with them.

On the other hand for 100 more than the 6150 you can get Lee Reeve's model which has nearly an inch more cutting surface. Ragnar's are worth more than the asking price, but Reeves are too.
